The nature park is located between Langerwehe and Eupen in the north and Bad Münstereifel , Prüm and Sankt Vith in the south and comprises six areas: the Rureifel , the Western High Eifel , the Kalkeifel , the Ourtal , the Venn foreland and the High Fens , a high moor and heather landscape, which was formed at the end of the last ice age 7,500 years ago.

The geographical name Nordeifel describes strictly speaking only the Eifel landscape between Zitterwald the south and Aachen in the north, Bad Münstereifel on the east and on the Rureifel to the Belgian border in the west. The High Fens is viewed geographically as an independent natural area of the entire Eifel, but is included in the nature park.

From 2020 areas in Aachen and in the communities Langerwehe, Kreuzau and Vettweiß were added. These are the slopes west of the Wehebach near Langerwehe, the Ruraue near Kreuzau and the Drover Heide near Vettweiß. As a result, the area of the nature park was enlarged by 60 km².
