Siebengebirge Nature Park

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Siebengebirge Nature Park is a nature park in the south of North Rhine-Westphalia , in the right Rhenish part of the Rhein-Sieg district and in the south of the Beuel district on the right bank of the city of Bonn . It was founded in 1958 as the first nature park in North Rhine-Westphalia and includes parts of the natural areas of Cologne Bay (only minimal parts in its southeast), Pleiser Hügelland (namely its west), Siebengebirge (complete), Rheinwesterwälder volcanic ridge (its north half located in NRW ) and Asbacher plateau (only in the north-west of North Rhine-Westphalia). The Pleiser Hügelland ("Pleiser Ländchen") and Siebengebirge belong to the Lower Middle Rhine region , while the Rheinwesterwälder volcanic ridge and Asbacher plateau belong to the natural Westerwald (more precisely: the Niederwesterwald ).

The continuously wooded western part of the nature park forms the Siebengebirge nature reserve , which was designated as early as 1922 .

Sponsorship

From 1986 to 2018 the Beautification Association for the Siebengebirge (VVS) was responsible for the nature park on a voluntary basis. After its takeover by the Rhein-Sieg district on February 1, 2018, a full-time office was set up, which is initially located at the headquarters of the district administration in Siegburg . The nature park assembly as a board of directors consists of two representatives from the participating communities, the Rhein-Sieg district and the VVS.

Expansion and communities involved

The nature park initially had a size of 4,800, after a comprehensive expansion in 2007 of 11,200 hectares. As is usual with nature parks, the boundaries of the Siebengebirge nature park are mainly based on municipal boundaries. However, there are deviations, especially in this nature park, in that the participating communities are only partially located in the nature park.

Participating municipalities are:

  • Bad Honnef (without the densely populated far west in the Rhine Valley)
  • Bonn (only near-natural eastern part of the city area)
  • Königswinter (without the Oberpleis district )
  • Sankt Augustin (only near-natural extreme south of the urban area, west of the A3 ; added in 2007)

The majority of the mountains worth mentioning in the Siebengebirge nature park run in a chain-like manner in the western part of the nature park - in the Siebengebirge nature reserve - from northwest to southeast.

The north of the nature reserve lies in the Ennert ridge (part of the Pleiser Hügelland ) and belongs to the sub- nature reserve of the same name . The central part is in the Siebengebirge and the southern part on the Rheinwesterwälder volcanic ridge . A few elevations in the nature park are to the east of the nature reserve.
