architecture

The German Embassy in New Delhi was built from 1956 to 1962 , based on designs by Johannes Krahn, as the first new embassy building in the Federal Republic of Germany on park-like grounds. This is a reaction to the fact that, after the Second World War, India was one of the first states to recognize the Federal Republic of Germany diplomatically. The building, inspired by Le Corbusier , combines the office and ambassador's residence. Numerous extensions were added later. A general renovation planned for 2008 to 2013 based on monument preservation criteria has not yet been implemented; only the coloring of the original design was restored by Meuser Architects in 2009 to mark the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Germany and India .
