history
Location in Saxony-Anhalt |
The first mention of the village comes from 1318 as villa Dewiz . In 1321, income from villa Dewitze was used to build and endow an altar in the monastery church of the Holy Spirit in Salzwedel. In the Landbuch der Mark Brandenburg from 1375 Devitz is mentioned as a village with 12 Hufen Land and a Schulzen .
The large stone graves at Dewitz were destroyed in the 19th century.
In the 20th century there was a windmill northwest of the village south of the road towards Gagel.
During the land reform in 1945, 24 possessions were identified that had an area of less than 100 hectares, a total of 433 hectares. The two church properties were 20 hectares and one parish ownership was 0.3 hectares. An agricultural production cooperative , the LPG Type I "Altmark", was later established . In 1974 it was merged with other cooperatives to form LPG Type III "Altmark" Bretsch, based in Lückstedt. In 1975 the LPG "Georgi Dimitroff" in Stapel and in 1976 the LPG "Friedlicher Aufbau" Kossebau were connected to this.
