Losse is a part of the municipality Altmärkische Höhe in the district of Stendal in Saxony-Anhalt .

Geographical location

Losse is located in the north of the Altmark , in a wooded area, about six kilometers west of Seehausen (Altmark) in the nature reserve "East edge of the Arendsee plateau". In the east lies the forest area Stadtforst Seehausen (Seehauser Forst) with the Baarsbergen.

Subdivision breakdown

Today the Tannenkrug residential area belongs to the Losse district, just under two kilometers north of the village. The Dornstücke residential area north of Losse was abandoned . The residential area Riethberg in the west of the village no longer has its own name.

history

The first documentary mention comes from the year 1170 as Losse . Margrave Otto I. donated half of the village to the diocese and chapter Havelberg. Further mentions are 1209 Losse , 1541 Lossow and 1687 Zu der Losse .

prehistory

In 1838 urn finds from Losse were handed over to the museum in Salzwedel . At that time, these finds were described as follows: They are characterized by the delicacy of the mass and neat decorations . In 1840 a subsequent excavation was carried out in Losse, which unearthed pyre places. The finds were later dated to the Stone Age.

Origin of the place name

The name is interpreted as Old Slavic "lesu", translated as "the forest".

Incorporations

On July 1, 1950, the previously independent municipality of Priemern was incorporated into Losse. On November 22nd, 1967, the district of Priemern was assigned to the municipality of Bretsch . As early as July 25, 1952, the community of Losse was reclassified from the district of Osterburg to the district of Seehausen . On July 2, 1965 she came to the Osterburg district and finally on July 1, 1994 to the current district of Stendal .

Until December 31, 2009 Losse was an independent municipality with the Tannenkrug residential area and belonged to the now dissolved Seehausen (Altmark) administrative community .

The municipal councils of the communities Boock (on May 20, 2009), Bretsch (on June 30, 2009), Gagel (on January 12, 2009), Heiligenfelde (on January 21, 2009), Kossebau (on June 16, 2009) 2009), Losse (on January 23, 2009) and Lückstedt (on January 12, 2009) decided that their communities should be dissolved and merged into a new community with the name Altmärkische Höhe . This contract was approved by the county as the lower local supervisory authority and came into effect on January 1, 2010.

The Evangelical parish of Losse used to belong to the parish of Losse. The parish is now part of parishioners area Seehausen of the church district Stendal in Propst Sprengel Stendal Magdeburg of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

The oldest surviving church registers for Losse date from 1645.

Culture and sights

• The Protestant village church Losse was rebuilt between 1766 and 1769 on the masonry of the choir and on the eastern part of the original field stone building from the early 13th century. In 1765 the old church was burned out.
• The cemetery is in the southeast of the village.
• In the cemetery is the grave of an unknown Serbian soldier who was shot as a prisoner-of-war foreign worker in the village because he would have refused to go to a certain farm on which a farmer's wife lived who was known for treating prisoners of war badly and giving them little gave to eat. After the fall of the Wall, the community had a memorial stone in the form of a cross erected on the grave site.
• At the church in Losse there is a stele as a memorial to the dead of both world wars, integrated into the natural stone wall around the church.

The community is located near the federal highway 190 from Salzwedel to Seehausen (Altmark) . There is a road connection to Osterburg (Altmark) in the south-east .

Personalities

• Friedrich Wilhelm August Bratring (1772–1829), ethnologist and author of topographical-statistical non-fiction books, was born in Losse.
