The 1988 British miniseries The Chronicles of Narnia: The King of Narnia is a live-action version of the original first novel in the fantasy series The Chronicles of Narnia by C. S. Lewis . It is the third cinematic adaptation of the material since the 1967 ITV series and the 1979 cartoon.

The series consists of six episodes of around 25-30 minutes each:
- Lucy's adventure in the closet
- Edmund and the false queen
- Edmund under the spell of the White Witch
- Aslan breaks the ice
- Aslan fighting the White Witch
- Aslan's victory over evil

London in August 1940: The four siblings Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy Pevensie are sent to the country to see Professor Digory Kirke, an eccentric loner, to protect them from bombing raids during the Second World War . Here, through the door of a magical wardrobe, they find access to Narnia , a mysterious world that has been winter for 100 years.
Instead, the white witch Jadis rules, who contests the rule of the rightful king of Narnia, the lion Aslan. With the help of the beavers and other Narnians, Peter, Susan and Lucy not only manage to free their brother Edmund, who has been enchanted by the White Witch, but also to help Aslan to the throne of Narnia. They too become great kings of Narnia, who only find their way back to their own world years later.

The Chronicles of Narnia: The King of Narnia adheres to the original book by Lewis in great detail, and avoids largely free interpretations.
While the exterior shots were filmed in Hawkstone Park in Weston-under-Redcastle ( Shropshire ), the interior shots were shot in a Scottish studio. White Witch Castle and Cair Paravel Castle , although two different locations in the story, are one and the same in reality: Manorbier Castle in Pembrokeshire .
The series was last broadcast by ZDF in the winter of 1993/1994 .

The series was nominated four times for the British Academy Television Award in 1989, and won a trophy:

In addition, the series was for the Emmy in the category Best children's program (Outstanding Children's Program) nominated.
Remake
The series was remade as a feature film in 2005 under the same title The Chronicles of Narnia: The King of Narnia (2005) . The main roles are played by Georgie Henley (Lucy), Skandar Keynes (Edmund), William Moseley (Peter) and Anna Popplewell (Susan).
