Dietmar Kerschbaum (born July 29, 1970 in Güssing , Burgenland ) is an Austrian culture and music manager, international festival director, Brucknerhaus director and artistic director of the LIVA (Linz event company) and Austrian interpreter of the German opera and concert field

Life

Kerschbaum studied trumpet from 1984 to 1989 at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz . He then studied acting from 1990 to 1993 at the Prayner Conservatory in Vienna and simultaneously singing from 1993 to 1998 at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna with Walter Berry . In 1998 Dietmar Kerschbaum completed his diploma studies with distinction.

His first engagements took him as a member of the ensemble to the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf , as well as to the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin, where he played the roles of David ( Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg ), Tanzmeister ( Ariadne auf Naxos ), Tamino, Monostatos ( The Magic Flute ), Steuermann ( The Flying Dutchman ), Don Basilio ( Le nozze di Figaro ) and Jaquino ( Fidelio ) could be seen. He made his debut at the Vienna Volksoper as the youngest Eisenstein ( Die Fledermaus ) in the history of the house. This was followed by the title roles in Leoš Janáček's The Excursions of Mr. Brouček and Wilhelm Kienzl's Der Evangelimann .

In 2003 he made his debut at the Salzburg Festival in the role of Pedrillo in Stefan Herheim's new production of Mozart's Die Entführung aus dem Serail . Another invitation to Salzburg followed as Monostatos under the baton of Riccardo Muti in the Magic Flute . In the same role he made his debut at the Metropolitan Opera in New York .

In addition, concert activities a. a. to the Suntory Hall Tokyo , the Auditório of the Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian in Lisbon or the Avery Fisher Hall New York, where he performed in Bach's St. Matthew Passion under Kurt Masur . He also works regularly with the Wiener Konzerthaus and the Wiener Musikverein , where he recently interpreted A Florentine Tragedy by Alexander Zemlinsky and the Diary of a Missing Person by Leoš Janáček.

In addition to his opera career, he is since 2002 founder and artistic director of the international festival jOPERA jennersdorf festival summer , where he, among others, Mozart's The Abduction from the Seraglio staged and the roles of Max in Carl Maria von Weber's Der Freischütz and the witch in Engelbert Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel took .

On December 5, 2017, he was inaugurated as artistic director of the Brucknerhaus in Linz .
