Alexander Nikolajewitsch Ditjatin ( Russian Александр Николаевич Дитятин ; born August 7, 1957 in Leningrad ) is a former Soviet or Russian artistic gymnast . At the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow , he won eight medals.

Alexander Ditjatin made his first Olympic appearance at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal . There he won silver in the team all-around competition. He also qualified for two device fights, won a silver medal on the rings and came sixth on the pommel horse .

At the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow , Ditjatin led the Soviet team to the team all-round title. He also qualified for all six device fights. On July 25, 1980, Ditjatin won six medals in one day: gold on the rings , silver on the horizontal bar , parallel bars , pommel horse and jump as well as a bronze medal on the floor . Ditjatin, along with Michael Phelps, is the only athlete in Olympic history to win eight medals at the Olympic Games in one year. He was also the first male athlete to be rated 10 in an Olympic competition, namely in the jump. In 2004 Alexander Ditjatin was inducted into the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame .
