Dominik Hofbauer (born September 19, 1990 in Eggenburg ) is an Austrian football player .

Career

society

Hofbauer began his career in the youth of his home club SK Eggenburg , before moving to FK Austria Wien at the age of nine .

In 2005 he went to five years in the federal capital in the Steiermark to SK Sturm Graz . After a year at the Sturm Academy, he was already part of the amateur squad from 2006 and from spring 2007 filled the vacant position in the attacking midfield due to Daniel Beichler's final promotion to the professional squad . In total, at the age of 16, he then completed 11 league appearances with a goal in the Middle Regional League and secured a place in the middle of the league with the team.

At the same time, he won the 2006 Youth Toto Cup with the Austrian U-17 national team, during which he was discovered by the Premier League club Aston Villa . In July 2007 he then moved in a double pack with national team colleague Andreas Weimann from SK Rapid Vienna to the “Villans” youth academy .

In his first year in Birmingham he was promoted to the reserve team after strong performances in the Academy team, for which he was used in six out of thirteen possible games in a row and was able to score one goal. As a result, he won with the team first the regional Southern Division and shortly afterwards with a 3-1 win in the final against AFC Sunderland the Premier Reserve League title . Hofbauer started in the final alongside players like Nathan Delfouneso , Barry Bannan and Marc Albrighton before he had to leave the field for Chris Herd in the 86th minute .

In the following season he was in the squad of the reserve team for the entire season, won with her again the Southern Division and moved into the play-off final against Manchester United for the second time in a row . The title defense failed, however, after a 3: 3 in regular time by a 2: 3 on penalties. In the course of the season he was in the Europa League qualification in the squad of the professional team and also regularly took part in their training, but did not make the expected leap into the Premier League , as Weimann did .

As a result, he left England and played for several clubs, including Hertha BSC , SV Ried and SK Rapid Wien for rehearsals. At Rapid he was tested together with the then Italy legionnaire Daniel Wolf in a 9-0 test match against the lower division Hofstätten-Grünau, in which he scored two goals. He then signed a contract with Rapid, which immediately awarded him with a total of seven other amateur and youth players in the Regionalliga Ost to the cooperation association FAC Team for Vienna . As a result, he had to struggle with the ambitious Floridsdorfers to switch to the new league under coach Christian Prosenik and was only used as a substitute in the first rounds before he was able to improve his performance at the end of the first half of the season and became a regular.

During the winter break there was another change on loan to the second-class first division for SKN St. Pölten . The transfer was fixed as part of the negotiations on the further whereabouts of Thomas Fröschl, who was also on loan from Rapid . St. Pölten had a vacuum on the left wing in the first half of the season, which threatened to worsen due to the possible departure of Jiří Leňko , who was doing a trial in Scotland at FC Kilmarnock . Lenko stayed, however, so Hofbauer was given a more offensive role in the system of the state capital through coach Martin Scherb .

On February 25, 2011 he celebrated his debut in professional football in a 1-1 draw in the first division against SC Austria Lustenau .

For the 2012/13 season, Hofbauer moved to SC Wiener Neustadt together with his teammate Thomas Vollnhofer .

In summer 2013 he returned permanently to the SKN St. Pölten. In January 2015 he returned to the Bundesliga club SC Wiener Neustadt. After Wiener Neustadt was relegated to the second division, he joined the Bundesliga club SCR Altach . He left SCR Altach after the 2015/16 season.

In September 2016 he moved to the Polish first division club Arka Gdynia , with whom he received a contract valid until June 2017. He made his debut in Ekstraklasa on September 19, 2016 (9th matchday) in a 1-0 home win against Cracovia Kraków with a substitution for Miroslav Božok in the 90th minute. He scored his first league goal on February 24, 2017 (23rd match day) in a 4-1 win in the home game against Korona Kielce with the goal of the final score in the 90th minute.

In July 2017, a third engagement followed at SKN St. Pölten, now playing in the Bundesliga, with which he received a contract valid until June 2020. After 55 Bundesliga appearances for the Lower Austrians, he left the club after his contract ended after the 2019/20 season.

National team

He celebrated his first international success for Austria in 2006 when he won the Toto Cup in Tyrol. Hofbauer was the goalscorer in the final against Belgium to make it 1-0. In autumn 2007 he then played the qualifying tournament for the U-17 European Football Championship 2008 in Greece , where he was used in two of three possible games.

As a result, he was used in a total of 4 friendly matches for the U-18 and U-19 national team from 2007 to 2008.
