Do not Cry (English for. " Do not cry ") is a hard rock ballad of the US band Guns N 'Roses . It appeared on both parts of the double release Use Your Illusion I & II in different versions and was released as a single in September 1991. The piece reached high chart positions in Europe and the US, including number 8 in the UK and number 10 in the US.

There is also a third version of the song, which was released with different lyrics on the two albums (the version on Use Your Illusion I became the official single). It was already recorded during the recordings for the 1986 album Appetite for Destruction and appeared as a further version on the single. For the versions on Use Your Illusion , Shannon Hoon , singer of Blind Melon and a friend of Axl Rose , did the backing vocals. He can also be seen in the music video.

The piece forms a trilogy with the following singles Estranged and November Rain , as Rose once said. It is partly inspired by the short story Without You by Del James . The song is about a woman leaving her husband. On Making F @ # $ ing Videos , Rose said the song was about a woman Izzy Stradlin was friends with, who also found Rose attractive, but who told him she didn't want him. A little later, Rose and Izzy Stradlin 'wrote the song together. The song was written in late 1984 and early 1985.

Music video

A very elaborate video was shot for this piece as well. In addition to the act that u. a. If the main character has relationship problems, the band can be seen playing on a skyscraper roof, where they are filmed from a helicopter perspective. The video was filmed when Izzy Stradlin 'had already left the band. Dizzy Reed wore a t-shirt that said "Where's Izzy?" In the video.

The piece was played live on most of the band's tours, only missing it at the first concerts of the Chinese Democracy Tour.
