Don't Let Me Down (English for " Don't let me down ") is a pop song by Andrew Taggart, Emily Warren and Scott Harris. He was in the interpretation of the American DJ - duo The Chainsmokers in cooperation with the US singer Daya known. The song was released on February 5, 2016. It was the Chainsmokers' first Top 10 hit in the German single charts .

Don't Let Me Down is the first song produced by the Chainsmokers after their debut extended play Bouquet . The song was written by Taggart with Scott Harris and Emily Warren, who had previously worked with the Chainsmokers on the song Until You Were Gone . According to the Chainsmokers, Don't Let Me Down was already finished when their computer crashed and the song was lost due to data loss , so it had to be produced again. The vocal part was performed by the 17-year-old singer Daya at the time of recording. The Chainsmokers had become aware of her through the success of her debut single Hide Away .

Musical and content

Don't Let Me Down is a dance-pop song with trap elements. The song, composed in four-four time , is written in G sharp minor and has a tempo of 160 beats per minute . Daya's vocal range ranges from G 3 to C 5 . The Roland TR-808 is used to generate sound, which also includes guitar sounds . The song has a stanza - chorus structure, after the chorus the trap elements start. Don't Let Me Down is about a person who is in distress and needs help from their partner.

Reviews

Don't Let Me Down received a positive response from critics. Timo Büschleb from Dance-charts.de wrote: "Don't Let Me Down is a great production and you can only express respect for the dexterity of the Chainsmokers". Matt Medved of Billboard magazine called the song "a radio-worthy piece of songwriting craft whose pulsating, synthetic drop and unconventional end can be heard on dance floors as well as on headphones". Fiete Oberkalkofen from 1Live was also impressed by the song, she wrote: " Don't Let Me Down is simply a catchy radio pop song that goes straight to the ear with its electronic synth sounds".

Commercial win

With the appearance of the Chainsmokers on the Tonight Show in early February 2016 , where they presented their new release Don't Let Me Down in addition to their song Roses , the song received some additional promotion in the United States , so Don ' t Let Me Down first entered the Billboard Hot 100 at number 85 on February 27, 2016 . In the following weeks, the song was able to increase steadily, so that at the beginning of July 2016 it reached the top 10 with 3rd place. Don't Let Me Down entered the German single charts on March 11, 2016. Four weeks later, the song reached the top 20 at number 15. At the same time, both artists were also in the German single charts with a second song, The Chainsmokers with Roses and Daya with Hide Away . In mid-June, the highest ranking and for the first time the top 10 in Germany was achieved with sixth place. The song also climbed to sixth place in the Ö3 Austria Top 40 . In the Swiss charts it also made it into the top 10. Don't Let Me Down achieved further top 10 placements in Australia (3rd place), Belgium (Flanders) (7th place), New Zealand (2nd place) and the Netherlands (5th place), Norway (5th place) and Sweden (5th place).

At the Grammy Awards in 2017 won Do not Let Me Down the award in the category Best Dance Recording .
