Dynamedion is a German company from Mainz that specializes in the composition, recording and implementation of soundtracks and sound design for computer games and films. It was founded in Mainz in 2001 and is one of the world's leading providers of computer game music.

history

The company was founded in 2001 by college friends Pierre Langer and Tilman Sillescu, at that time both still at the Mainz Conservatory . The mp3 format made it possible to incorporate real music and film-like soundtracks into games instead of synthetic sounds. This also led to increasing professionalism and demand for compositions in the computer game industry. The first published commission from Dynamedion was the soundtrack composition for the computer game Spellforce by Phenomic . In 2004 the studio received the German Developer Award for the best soundtrack for the music for the Breath of Winter add-on . The 2006 soundtrack was the first soundtrack recorded in Germany with an orchestra and was played in 2006 as part of the symphonic game music concerts at the opening of the Games Convention in the Gewandhaus .

Dynamedion was then designed and built as a group of composers, with central project control and implementation from the headquarters in Mainz. In 2007 Dynamedion became the first German recipient of a GANG Award , an annual international award from the Game Audio Network Guild for excellent audio productions in computer games. Dynamedion was awarded for the best instrumental piece ("Titan" from ParaWorld ). Since Dynamedion also took over the sound design for games and commercial libraries did not always contain all sounds, a catalog of their own sound effects was created over time. When the orders collapsed as a result of the global economic crisis in 2008, Dynamedion expanded the business area to include sound licensing, consisting of a database with completely edited sounds and individually edited source recordings. The activities were bundled in a separate sister company called Boom Library. As a result, Dynamedion increasingly reached customers in the TV and film sector, such as the HBO series Game of Thrones . In addition, there was recording work with orchestras and choirs, for example for the title topic of the Super Bowl . In 2017, the company offered various services in the fields of composition, music production and sound design under seven different labels. In addition to the Boom Library, these include Sonuscore (sample library), Sonic Liberty ( GEMA-free music library) or the Open Orchestra Sessions, where a composer can calculate and order a live recording of his music with an orchestra.

According to a study on the global market for computer game music by Market Research Explore in 2018, Dynamedion was one of the ten leading companies in this field, alongside companies such as Spotify , Sony , Audio Network Limited and globally operating computer game publishers (including EA , Ubisoft , Activision Blizzard , Nintendo ).
