The IHF Cup 1981/82 was the 1st edition of the competition introduced by the International Handball Federation . 18 handball club teams took part that had qualified for the European Cup in their home countries in the previous season . The VfL Gummersbach prevailed in the final against the Yugoslav team of RK Željezničar Sarajevo through and signed the first in the list of winners.
