Eduard Hirsch (born December 6, 1896 in Steinbach ; † May 28, 1989 ) was a German administrative officer and district administrator . From 1948 to 1966 he was the district administrator of the Heilbronn district .

Life

Hirsch was born in Steinbach near (Schwäbisch) Hall as the son of a master paver and farmer . From 1903 to 1907 he attended elementary school in Steinbach, then until 1914 the upper secondary school in Hall. An administration apprenticeship at the Haller Stadtschultheißenamt that lasted until 1917 followed. He then worked as an assistant, until 1918 at Stadtschultheißenamt Neuenstein , then until 1919 at the Oberamt Leutkirch . From 1919 to 1920 he attended the higher administrative school in Stuttgart and passed the service examination for the higher administrative service .

From 1920 to 1934 he worked for the Württemberg Ministry of the Interior in Stuttgart, where he was a member of the police department for eleven years and was promoted to senior accountant. At the same time he was a guest student in the subjects of finance and economics at the Technical University of Stuttgart from 1920 to 1924 . From 1934 he was department head at the Württemberg examination institute for corporations. 1940 to 1945 he was seconded as head of the police department to the mayor of the German-occupied Krakow , at that time part of the General Government (for the occupied Polish territories) . In 1945 he was back in Württemberg, from February head of department in the Schwäbisch Hall agricultural office and from April to August 1945 administrative administrator (of the district administrator) in the Schwäbisch Hall district . From August 1945 to November 1947 he was in "political detention".

On June 1, 1948, the non-party Eduard Hirsch was elected by the district council of Heilbronn as the successor of Hermann Sihler as district administrator. He was re-elected in 1954 and 1960 and retired on October 7, 1966. His successor was Otto Widmaier .

The most urgent task at the beginning of his tenure as district administrator was to remedy the housing shortage caused by the war damage and the influx of refugees. In order to remedy this, Hirsch campaigned, among other things, for the establishment of the " Federal Model Estate " Amorbach near Neckarsulm , which was built from 1953 to 1955 and later expanded several times. During Hirsch's tenure, the expansion of the district hospital in Brackenheim and the establishment of the second district hospital in Möckmühl , the relocation of the lung sanatorium (today's pulmonary clinic) from Gundelsheim to a new building near Löwenstein and the expansion of the road network in the district also took place.

Awards

In 1964 Eduard Hirsch received the Federal Cross of Merit, 1st Class.
