Alexander Eduard Ernst von Dresler and Scharfenstein (born February 19, 1801 in Glogau , † March 18, 1871 in Magdeburg ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

Eduard was the son of the Prussian major Georg von Dresler and Scharfenstein (1753-1831) and his wife Luise, born von Lucke (1776-1857) from the Kursko house. The general of the infantry Hermann von Dresler and Scharfenstein (1857-1942) was his nephew.

Military career

After visiting the Berlin Cadet House, on May 5, 1818, Dresler was transferred to the 14th Infantry Regiment of the Prussian Army as a secondary lieutenant and completed the General War School for further training in 1821/23 . From 1824 to 1837 he was an adjutant of the 1st Battalion in Königsberg , later in Stargard , and in early August 1834 he was promoted to Prime Lieutenant . On November 17, 1842 Dresler rose to captain and company commander . On January 16, 1849, he was promoted to major in the 3rd Infantry Regiment in Pillau . This was followed on May 11, 1850 as a commander of the III. Battalions in the 20th Landwehr Regiment in Königs Wusterhausen . In this position he was promoted to lieutenant colonel in mid-July 1854 and as such he was commander of the fusilier battalion in the 24th Infantry Regiment in Neuruppin from February 8, 1855 to March 11, 1857 .

On March 12, 1857, Dresler was appointed commander of Kolberg and in mid-April 1857 was placed à la suite of the 24th Infantry Regiment. When he was appointed commander of the 26th Infantry Regiment in Magdeburg, he returned to service on October 29, 1857. His regiment chief Karl Anton von Hohenzollern awarded Dresler the Princely House Order of Hohenzollern II class at the end of December 1857 and on May 22, 1858 he was promoted to colonel . In position à la suite of his regiment, he was appointed commandant of Cologne on June 6, 1861 and awarded the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class with oak leaves, on September 20, 1861 . On the occasion of the coronation celebrations of King Wilhelm I , Dresler received his promotion to major general on October 18, 1861 . After he had been awarded the Commander's Cross II. Class of the Guelph Order at the beginning of December 1861 , he was transferred to Königsberg on January 9, 1864 as commander of the 2nd Infantry Brigade . Under awarding of the character as a lieutenant general took Dresler on 12 November 1864 his farewell to board and was on 22 March 1865 his pension for disposition made. He died on March 18, 1871 in Magdeburg.
