Eggert Ludwig von Estorff
Eggert Ludwig von Estorff (born November 1, 1831 in Verden ; † February 10, 1903 in Eldingen ) was a Prussian major general and editor-in-chief of the military weekly paper .
Life
origin
He was the son of Adolf Emil Moritz Karl von Estorff (1786–1847) and his wife Luise Amalie Johanne, née von Ompteda (1806–1884). His father was a Hanoverian colonel a. D. and Mr. on Teyendorf.
Military career
Estorff attended the Knight Academy in Lüneburg and then graduated from the cadet corps in Hanover . On April 1, 1850, he was transferred to the Guards Jäger Battalion of the Hanover Army . Here Estorff rose to prime lieutenant and graduated from the military academy in Hanover for further training in 1856/57 . With his battalion he took part in the battle of Langensalza in 1866 during the war against Prussia . After the lost war and the annexation of the Kingdom of Hanover , Estorff was accepted into the Prussian Army as Premier Lieutenant on March 9, 1867 and employed in the 1st Thuringian Infantry Regiment No. 31 . Shortly thereafter, on April 11, 1867, he was promoted to captain with simultaneous appointment as chief of the 2nd company in Erfurt . Estorff also led this company at the beginning of the war against France in the battles near Beaumont and Sedan . On September 20, 1870, he was transferred to the 3rd Magdeburg Infantry Regiment No. 66 , subsequently took part in the siege of Paris as a company commander and was awarded the Iron Cross 2nd class for his services .
After the peace agreement, Estorff remained in the regiment , rose in the following years to lieutenant colonel and acted as commander of the fusilier battalion and as a regular staff officer . On April 15, 1886, he was assigned to command the 1st Silesian Grenadier Regiment No. 10 in Breslau under position à la suite, and Estorff was appointed regimental commander with his promotion to colonel on June 1, 1886 . In approval of his resignation request , Estorff was put up for disposal on December 13, 1888 with the statutory pension and the character of major general .
After his departure, he worked from January 1, 1889 to July 1, 1899 as editor-in-chief of the military weekly paper. In recognition of his services, Wilhelm II awarded him the Order of the Crown, 2nd class, on June 24, 1899 . He died of a stroke .
family
Estorff had married Julie Berhardine von Witzendorff (1836-1902) on September 24, 1857 in Hanover . The following children were born from the marriage:
- Gertrud Marie Amalie (* 1858), conventual of the Lüne monastery
- Ludwig Gustav Adolf (1859–1943), German infantry general
- Eggert August Adolf (1863–1915), Prussian major general
- Auguste Emilie Ida (* 1866), conventual of the Wennigsen monastery
- Frieda Helene Alexandra Madeleine Anna (* 1872), deaconess at the Elisabeth Hospital in Berlin
- Otto Karl Ludwig (1874–1904), first lieutenant in the Second Sea Battalion
