Date: compulsory February 19; Freestyle February 21.

The competition consisted of compulsory and a five-minute freestyle. The performances were judged by nine judges.

Defending champion Richard Button already had a respectful distance on Seibt (18 / 106.411) after completing his duty (number 9 / 111.133 points), so that the Olympic victory could no longer be taken from him. Grogan (29 / 102,488) was four points behind the Austrian, but it was expected that the American would be the much better free skier and therefore only bronze would be possible for Seibt.

Button had dominated the men's competition since his Olympic victory and not lost a single competition. Despite his comfortable lead from duty, he did not rest in the freestyle. He showed a triple Rittberger , making him the first figure skater to have a triple jump in competition. His second Olympic victory was unanimous and safe.

The fight for second place was closer. European champion Helmut Seibt won the silver medal with the smallest possible margin of one place number (with four to three) in front of James Grogan . Four of the nine judges gave Seibt second place, five third place, which resulted in place number 23. Grogan only got second place three times and third six times, which led to place number 24. 18 year old Hayes Alan Jenkins finished fourth; he was to become the next Olympic champion four years later. The Canadian Peter Firstbrook followed in fifth place , for whom it was the best result of his career. The second best European was the Italian Carlo Fassi in sixth place , ahead of the French Alain Giletti .

The competition consisted of a five-minute freestyle. The performances were judged by nine judges.

Statement by the representative of the Swiss Ice Skating Association:
Dr. Arnold Huber from the Swiss Ice Skating Association stated in a retrospective in Sport Zurich on February 27, 1952 that in figure skating the judges awarded the two Swiss representatives the marks corresponding to their performance, and that François Pache had also proven himself to be a reliable fighter. With the evaluation of the Grandjean couple “he does not agree; it belongs in 5th place, not 7th. It has once again been shown that the acrobatic in pair skating is rated far too well. The Swiss couple did without it and had to experience that the Canadians, who neglected the dancing part, slipped into the top ranks with their acrobatics. "
