Emil Ferdinand Viktor Freiherr von Hammerstein-Gesmold (born January 30, 1827 in Gesmold , † August 11, 1894 in Hildesheim ) was a Prussian major general and commandant of Stralsund .

Emil was a son of Ludwig von Hammerstein-Gesmold (1787-1837) and his wife Friederike, born Freiin von Freitag (1790-1860).

Military career

Hammerstein visited the cadet house in Hanover . On May 1, 1846, he was transferred to the Guards Hussar Regiment of the Hanover Army and advanced to Prime Lieutenant by mid-May 1855 .
