Eric Joseph Lichaj (born November 17, 1988 in Downers Grove , Illinois ) is an American football player. Lichaj is currently under contract with the English second division club Hull City .

Due to the origin of his parents, he is also a citizen of Poland .

Career

society

His parents Stan and Ann Lichaj are of Polish descent. Lichaj played in the IMG Soccer Academy and a year with the North Carolina Tar Heels , the team from the University of North Carolina . He also played four games for Chicago Fire Premier in the USL Premier Development League .

In 2007 he signed a contract with the English club Aston Villa . Lichaj did not need a work permit, as he also had a Polish passport and therefore did not occupy a non-EU foreigner place. However, he only played in the reserve team for the first two years. At the Peace Cup 2009 was able to attract attention for the first time; Aston Villa won the competition. Since he could otherwise gain no gaming experience, he was loaned to Lincoln City FC in October 2009 until the end of the year in the Football League Two . After the loan period ended, it was loaned a second time during the season, this time to Leyton Orient in March 2010 . With this club he scored his first goal on April 17, 2010 against Stockport County .

After the season ended, he returned to Aston Villa. On July 19, he scored his first goal for Villa in the friendly against Peterborough United . After a successful preparation, Lichaj signed a new three-year contract on August 11th. On August 19, he played his first competitive game against SK Rapid Wien as part of the UEFA Europa League qualification . However, he had to wait until November 10th before he was allowed to play his first Premier League game against Blackpool FC .

On February 9, 2011, he was loaned to Leeds United for a month . He made his debut a little later in a league game against Bristol City . On March 14, Aston Villa extended its loan period to the remainder of the season. In a game against rival Sheffield United , he scored an own goal. After a total of 16 league appearances, Lichaj played his last game for Leeds on May 9 against the Queens Park Rangers . It was later announced on the Leeds United website that he would be returning to Aston Villa at the end of the loan period. In July, Leeds coach Simon Grayson campaigned to sign Lichaj again on loan. But this loan deal did not materialize and so Lichaj came to several appearances in the Premier League and also scored a goal in the League Cup against Hereford United and in the Premier League in the 2-4 defeat against Chelsea on March 31, 2012.

On June 19, 2013, Lichaj signed a two-year contract with Nottingham Forest . He made his debut on August 3 in a 1-0 win over Huddersfield Town . In the 2013/14 season he played 24 league and two FA Cup games without scoring.

National team

Lichaj played for various youth national teams and should be nominated for the junior soccer world championship 2005 in Peru , but he canceled at short notice due to an injury.

In June 2009, he took part as a guest player at the one-week training camp of the United States soccer team in Miami , with which he was preparing for the World Cup qualifiers against Costa Rica and Honduras . On October 12, 2010, he made his debut in the US national soccer team against Colombia. In spring 2011 he was nominated for the squad of the CONCACAF Gold Cup 2011 , in which he played four games.
