Erin Wall (born November 4, 1975 in Calgary , Alberta ) is a Canadian opera singer ( soprano ).

Life

Wall studied at the Vancouver Academy of Music , Western Washington University , Rice University, and the Music Academy of the West . She was a finalist in the 2003 Cardiff Singer of the World competition in Wales , in which 951 singers from 56 nations competed. 483 were selected, Wall sang in the group of five finalists.

Opera

Her operatic career began in 2001 at the Ryan Opera Center of the Lyric Opera of Chicago , where she was permanently engaged for three years. Erin Wall has appeared at Chicago's opera stage as Marguerite in Gounod's Faust , in the Mozart roles of Donna Anna , Pamina , Fiordiligi and Konstanze , as Helena in Britten's A Midsummer Night's Dream and as Antonia in Les Contes d'Hoffmann .

In 2005 she made her successful debut at the Festival d'Aix-en-Provence - finally in 2006 also at the Theater an der Wien and at the Opéra National de Paris - as Fiordiligi in a Patrice Chéreau production with Daniel Harding at the podium of the Mahler Chamber Orchestra . In 2006 she was noticed at the Mostly Mozart Festival in New York and at the Festival Season 2007 of the Santa Fe Opera she sang the title role in Strauss ' Daphne .

As Donna Anna, she conquered the Minnesota Opera (2006), the Washington National Opera (2007), the Met (2009) and finally the Vienna and Munich State Operas (2010), as well as the Vancouver Opera (2013). At Scala she could be seen and heard as Helena. She has also performed at the Teatro Municipal in Santiago de Chile , the Los Angeles Opera and the Calgary Opera , as well as numerous other opera stages in North and South America.

Her Wagner roles include Freia in Rheingold , Gerhilde in Walküre and the flower girl in Parsifal . In 2010 she made her debut as Countess in Capriccio at the Pacific Opera Victoria . The artist recently achieved personal success as Thaïs at the Edinburgh Festival (2011), as Clémence in L'amour de loin with the Canadian Opera Company and as Arabella at the Santa Fe Opera (both 2012). As a result, she was seen and heard at the Met as Helena and Arabella.

Erin Wall is also a sought-after concert singer. In July 2002 she made her debut in London with the soprano part in Britten's War Requiem , which she sang and recorded on the occasion of the 50th anniversary on May 30, 2012 in Coventry Cathedral under Andris Nelsons .

Mahler's Eighth has a special place in the artist's career, as she recorded it twice - first in 2007 under Pierre Boulez for Deutsche Grammophon , then in 2009 with the San Francisco Symphony under Michael Tilson Thomas ; an award-winning recording. With the San Francisco Symphony she recorded Beethoven's Ninth , a soprano solo, which she sang with numerous other orchestras, including the Vienna Philharmonic under Christian Thielemann .

Other concert appearances included Berg's Seven Early Songs under Sir Andrew Davis , Poulenc's Gloria and Strauss' Four Last Songs with Andris Nelsons on the podium. Erin Wall sang her first Verdi Requiem with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and her first Missa solemnis under Bernard Haitink . The artist has performed with numerous major orchestras and at a number of festivals, including Ravinia and Grant Park (both Chicago), Tanglewood (Massachusetts), Lanaudière (Montréal), Mostly Mozart (New York City), and Campos do Jordão (Brazil) .

Erin Wall lives in Toronto with her husband, son, and daughter .
