Ernst Kutzer (composer)

Ernst Ludwig Kutzer (born March 9, 1918 in Munich ; † October 14, 2008 in Pentling ) was a German composer and music teacher .

Life

In 1919, when he was one year old, Ernst Kutzer moved with his parents to their home in Thanhausen near Bärnau in the Upper Palatinate Stiftland . Kutzer grew up in a musical family. After attending the teachers' seminar in Amberg (today the Max-Reger-Gymnasium Amberg ) he studied composition with Joseph Haas at the Munich Music Academy in 1941/42, interrupting his military service . With Hermann Wolfgang von Waltershausen (1882-1954) he continued his training there from 1946-48 and passed his exam in 1949 with a major in Catholic church music.

From 1945 to 1980 he worked in school: in Hohenthan near Bärnau, Mitterteich , Stein near Tirschenreuth and most recently as the rector of the Bad Abbach primary school . 1949–54 he headed the Waldsassen chamber music group , 1980–83 he was a lecturer in harmony at the church music school (today the University for Catholic Church Music and Music Education ) in Regensburg .

Ernst Kutzer lived in Pentling since 1966 .

Compositions

Ernst Kutzer wrote orchestral works, chamber music, cantatas, masses and motets, an opera, a musical and over 250 solo songs with various accompanying instruments (piano, harp, organ, guitar, violoncello, string quartet). His hunter cantata saw hundreds of performances, his Bavarian about 40 performances throughout the year according to texts by Helmut Zöpfl . Kutzer's vocal works are based on tonality ; Between 1972 and 1983 he also worked instrumentally in the field of twelve-tone music .
