The 2017/18 season is the tenth season of the international league of the Hungarian Ice Hockey Federation. After its name sponsor Erste Bank , the league will be called Erste Liga from 2017 to 2020 ; from 2008 to 2017 the league was known as the MOL league . In addition to Hungarian representatives, clubs from Romania and, for the first time, an Austrian team, the Vienna Capitals farm team, will take part in the league . The defending champion is the DVTK Jegesmedvék .

Registration deadline for the league was June 15th. New to the league is a team from Vienna Capitals from Vienna, which is emerging from the previous junior team in the EBYSL . The HK Belgrade team from Serbia, which was only accepted into the league in 2016 , no longer reported. The Romanian club CSM Dunărea Galați from Romania, also included in 2016, was no longer admitted after a vote by the other clubs. The Hungarian club Debreceni HK had to withdraw its participation despite an extension until the end of June for financial reasons.
