Archdiocese of Medellín
The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Medellín ( lat. : Archidioecesis Medellensis , span. : Arquidiócesis de Medellín ) is an in Colombia located diocese of the Roman Catholic Church , based in Medellin .
history
Today's archbishopric was founded on February 14, 1868 by Pope Pius IX. founded out of the diocese of Antioquía under the name Medellensis . The first bishop was Valerio Antonio Ximenes . By Pope Leo XIII. the elevation to an archdiocese takes place on February 24, 1902 .
The suffragan dioceses Diocese Sonsón (1957), Diocese Caldas and Diocese Girardota (1988) and the incorporation of the Diocese Jericó followed .
