history

The place name Eulenbach was first mentioned in 1417 in the land register of Hardegg, Pulkau, Schrems as "Eybenpach", the place name being derived from the "stream on whose banks yew trees grow". Eulenbach, which in 1417 consisted of six fiefs, twelve half-lives, twelve states and one “Zuherberg” originally belonged to the Schrems rule with its land, local and regional jurisdiction. In 1598 ownership changed to Meires , in 1675 the rule came to Hirschbach (Lower Austria) and finally in 1762 back to Schrems. Before the abolition of the lordship, the place consisted of three feudal houses and fourteen half-feuds as well as twelve courtyards, one eighth feud and six small houses. In addition, at that time the place had the former stately inn, the former owner's house and later poor house and a community forge. In 1928 the innkeeper and smithy still existed, and a tailor was also based in the village. While the number of houses in Eulenbach rose almost continuously from 31 houses in 1591/91 to 53 houses in 2000.
