Federico Italiano (born June 28, 1976 in Novara ) is an Italian poet , literary scholar , translator and editor .

life and work

Federico Italiano studied philosophy in Milan and wrote his tesi di laurea on Seamus Heaney . He did his doctorate in general and comparative literature at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich on geopoetics at Montale and Celan. He then completed his habilitation, also at LMU , with an English-language work on translation and geography.

In 2003 his first volume of poetry, Nella costanza , was published, which was named one of the seven best books of the year by the Annuario di Poesia . The same applies to his third volume L'invasione dei granchi giganti ( 2010 ), which followed the long poem I Mirmidoni ( 2006 ). Un esilio perfetto was published in 2015 . Poetry scelte 2000-2015 at Feltrinelli. His poems have been included in several anthologies (inside and outside Italy) and translated into different languages ​​- including German , Spanish , English , Romanian and Albanian . In a survey by the daily Il Sole 24 Ore , Federico Italiano was named one of the six best contemporary Italian poets (under 40 years of age) in 2010. Since 2000 Federico Italiano has worked as an editor at the Italian magazine for literature Atelier and as a literary critic for various Italian magazines and newspapers (including il manifesto ).

As a translator , he has especially translated modern and contemporary poets ( César Vallejo , Philippe Soupault , Vicente Aleixandre , Elizabeth Bishop , Michael Krüger , Durs Grünbein , Lutz Seiler , Jan Wagner and others) into Italian. He is also the publisher of three poetry - Anthologies : Stella e giaguaro. Canti di libertà dall'America Latina al Medioriente ( 1999 ), Giovane poesia europea ( 2003 ) and The opening up of light. As a scientist, Federico Italiano has published two monographs on the relationship between literature and geography and edited four compilations , including Translatio / n. Narration, Media and the Staging of Differences (with Michael Rössner , Bielefeld 2012 ) and Geopoetiche. Studi di geografia e letteratura (with Marco Mastronunzio, Milan 2011 ).

Federico Italiano teaches general and comparative literature at the Leopold-Franzens University Innsbruck and the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . Since 2016 he has been a Senior Researcher at the Austrian Academy of Sciences.
