The Reutlingen fire brigade consists of 13 departments of the voluntary fire brigade and the professional fire brigade department of the city of Reutlingen , i. H. around 400 volunteers, around 70 officials from the fire service and 100 youth firefighters.

history

The Free Imperial City of Reutlingen was shaped by the emerging textile industry in the middle of the 19th century. The Echaz provided the necessary hydropower for the bleaching and tanning industries. The fire extinguishing system was maintained by "Feuerrotten", into which almost all male city dwellers were divided. The leather fire bucket was an essential extinguisher. Every citizen had to provide this himself.

100 years after the devastating city fire in 1726, in which 80% of the buildings in Reutlingen fell in flames, the rescue company was founded in 1826. This was followed in 1847 by the establishment of the Reutlingen Volunteer Fire Brigade, which still exists today as the city center department of the Reutlingen Fire Brigade.

In the then still independent municipality of Betzingen , on February 3, 1857, the Royal Higher Office obtained a promise that “In the event of a fire from Reutlingen 12, Eningen 12 and Pfullingen 12 (36 in total) well-trained, experienced firefighters to help hurry ... " . The condition was that the community purchased equipment, which was too expensive for the councilors.

As early as 1898 a modern fire station was built with the old fire station in Reutlingen. In 2003 the fire brigade moved from Ledergraben to a new warehouse at the guard on Hauffstrasse. A joint watch for the future professional fire brigade and the Reutlingen voluntary fire brigade, City Center Dept., was completed in April 2003. The new guard was built in an industrial area from the former central workshop of the technical operations services in Reutlingen. The area is much more extensive than the area around the old fire station and offers parking spaces for 30 vehicles and 16 roll-off containers.

On January 1, 2004, the professional fire brigade was founded there in Reutlingen. Before that, a full-time guard had been set up since 1984 after the 1984 census found that Reutlingen had over 100,000 inhabitants and therefore had to have a professional fire brigade. This was circumvented until the end of 2003 through an exemption from the Ministry of the Interior. It was the 100th professional fire brigade in Germany. The integrated control center, various workshops and the fire brigade training center are located there.

The Reutlingen fire brigade is one of the main players in the annual so-called "Reutlingen Safety Day". It serves as a formal reason for a Sunday shopping in the city center and is organized by city marketing and RT-Aktiv.

museum

A small fire department museum with more than 200 exhibits has been set up in the new fire station. There the history and the development of fire fighting in Reutlingen are presented.

Significant stakes

  • 1995 saw the biggest fire in the post-war history of the Reutlingen fire brigade at the Reiff company (automotive supplier). The tire warehouse burned to its full extent over a length of 20 m × 70 m. Collapsing tire shelves created a fire bridge to the production hall. Despite massive fighting, it was not possible to prevent the fire from spreading. The fire was probably caused by arson. A total of 630 firefighters were on duty.
  • On December 31, 2006, there was a major fire at Robert Bosch GmbH in the Rommelsbach plant . The plant fire brigade of Robert Bosch GmbH, the Reutlingen professional fire brigade and various departments of the voluntary fire brigade as well as volunteer fire brigades from other communities were on duty.

Education / training

In the fire station in Reutlingen, advanced training and special training courses take place for both the FF and BF.

Integrated control center

All emergency calls under "112" are sent to the integrated control center in Reutlingen. The control center is manned by fire fighters and employees of the Reutlingen DRK district association. It is the "communication center" for non-police security in the Reutlingen district. It was operated jointly in October 1998 by three equal partners, the Reutlingen DRK district association, the Reutlingen district and the city of Reutlingen.

Reutlingen was the first major city in Baden-Württemberg to set up an integrated control center, while this was already common in other countries. Every year, around 75,000 requests for help are processed in the Reutlingen control center.

Special units

In the special groups of the fire brigade, both professionals from the professional fire brigade (BF) and the volunteer fire brigade (FF) are deployed.
