history

Eningen

Eningen was founded around 300 AD in a sunny, mountain-covered forest ravine, presumably by the Ano clan of an Alemanni . The first written mention of the name Eningen can be found in 1089 in the Bempflingen contract of the Zwiefalten monastery . In the Middle Ages, its markings extended to Würtingen , all the way to the Mädlinshalde towards Pfullingen, and also included Loschenhalde and Betzenried. Like the Pfullinger , the people of Eningen were allowed to drive their cattle here; the people of Reutlingen had to keep a shepherd to protect their vineyards , who reported to the mayor of Eningen (contract of July 7, 1572). According to the Treaty of Judica in 1513, the pastures belonged to Eningen alone. These rights went back even longer than the purchase of the mountain by the Ermstalgraves around the year 1000 and therefore persisted. In the Middle Ages , a large part of the surrounding forest and the arable land that is now used for agriculture was used as pasture. For this purpose, the Eningen plateau on the Swabian Alb , where the two breeding farms Schafhaus and Oberer Lindenhof can be found today, has remained for a long time .

In the Thirty Years' War a third of Eninger houses were destroyed. From 1637 to 1648 the place belonged - with interruptions - to the "Pfandschaft Achalm" and was ruled by the Archdukes of Austria-Tyrol in Innsbruck. An attempt by Archduchess Claudia of Austria-Tyrol (1604–1648) to reintroduce the Catholic Mass failed due to resistance from the residents.

Afterwards the village experienced an upswing due to the agricultural trade , which made Eningen the "most beautiful and populous village in Württemberg ". In 1833 there were already over 5000 inhabitants. Today the monument of the Eninger shopkeeper stands on the former market square on the main street.

When the Kingdom of Württemberg was set up , Eningen was part of the Urach Oberamt . In 1842 the village came to the Reutlingen Regional Office and in 1938 to the district of the same name . In 1899, Eningen received a direct connection to Reutlingen via the narrow-gauge local railway Reutlingen – Eningen, which was closed in 1974 . In 1945 the place became part of the French occupation zone and in 1947 it was assigned to the newly founded state of Württemberg-Hohenzollern , which was added to the state of Baden-Württemberg in 1952.

Eitlingen

Next to the village of Eningen there was once the village of Eitlingen, whose name came from an owner or chief Neidling or Nydling. It was mentioned in 1454 as a garment in Nydlingen and in 1555 in the form of a bathing room in Neidling. The village was where Grabenstrasse now leads up. Over time, the settlements grew together, but Eitlinger Strasse can still be found in Eningen today. To date there are a number of places with similar names. These are the municipality of Aidlingen in the district of Böblingen , the municipality of Neidlingen in the district of Esslingen , the Feuchtwang district of Neidlingen in the Central Franconian district of Ansbach and the market town of Neidling north-west of Sankt Pölten in Lower Austria . In addition, the name Neidling exists as a family name.

Healthy community

Model community Eningen

Eningen was one of three model communities in the Reutlingen district that were certified as a healthy community for three years on May 8, 2015 by the then Baden-Württemberg Minister of Social Affairs Katrin Altpeter and District Administrator Thomas Reumann . The recertification took place on November 15, 2018 during the municipal council meeting by District Administrator Reumann.

In addition to Eningen unter Achalm, the communities of Hohenstein (Reutlingen district) and Hülben also became model communities.

The communities of Dettingen an der Erms , Grafenberg (Reutlingen district) , Walddorfhäslach and Wannweil are now certified healthy communities.

Responsibilities of the healthy community

The main goal is that health should be recognized as a value and should be more recognized in society. The task of the healthy community is to network various health offers in the area and to encourage citizens to adopt a healthy lifestyle. This creates the voluntary "Healthy Community Working Group", a community network of doctors, citizens, associations, companies and the community administration, which bundle their specialist knowledge. In recent years, this has resulted in the Eningen Health Forum, which offers medical lectures and workshops, and the Dementia Network, which provides information and advice to those affected and their families.

Local public transport is guaranteed by the Neckar-Alb-Danube transport association (NALDO). The community is located at Wabe 220 and is connected to Reutlingen by lines 1 and 11 of the Reutlingen city traffic . From 1899 the place was also connected to the district town by the steam-powered local railway Reutlingen – Eningen .
