The Fischbachlauf run by name arises a little before the not permanently inhabited forest house Keuerstadt.

The Fischbach is a forest creek of the Virngrund in the Ostalbkreis in northeastern Baden-Württemberg , which flows into the upper Jagst from the right between the hamlets of Kalkhöfe von Ellwangen and Schweighausen von Jagstzell after an initially southwestern, then western run of about 6 km in length . Sometimes its longer upper course Eschenbach is struck to Fischbach, with this it is then almost 9 km long.

geography

course

The Fischbach arises in the small valley around the former Mühlenplatz Keuerstadt , which belongs to the municipality Jagstzell, from the Eschenbach flowing in from the northeast , which is here at about 461  m above sea level. NHN is united with the Brandbach coming from the north near the St. Nicholas Chapel on the spur between the upper reaches and close to the only building on the area that is not permanently inhabited. The Eschenbach is 2.9 km longer, a lane richer catchment area than the Brandbach, because it drains the ascent to a height of 580  m above sea level. NHN largest elevation Hornberg des Virngrunds, on which the rain clouds, which mostly come from west to north in the region, can rain down; the rather flat and deeper Brandbach sub-catchment area, on the other hand, does not have such a terrain level towards the foreland.

In the inlet direction of the Eschenbach, the unified Fischbach initially continues to flow to the south-west. After the valley direction closes again soon, a nearly one kilometer long brook comes from the castle blade from the east-southeast , which rises at the castle stables of the old castle, which once stood on a western spur of the south-western sloping Hornberg . A little afterwards, the Fischbach runs through a half-hectare-sized forest pond, which is followed a little further by a smaller, now building-free meadow clearing in the valley, at the end of which the two-kilometer-long Altschlosstalbach flows from the west . It rises at the southeast foot of the Hornberg near the route of the A 7 south of the Virngrund tunnel and is the longest left tributary below the upper reaches.

Now the brook turns quickly towards the west, where it has reached it, the Stockensägmühle is on the right, about across from the mouth of the Stockener Bach flowing in from the southeast. Soon after the end of the valley direction around this residential area, that of the Treppelmühle begins, the mill property of which stands between the stream and a briefly branching canal with a small mill pond. After another forest bar in the valley, the Kälberbach, with its long upper course, flows out of its own open Untertal from the right and northeast into the wide meadow around the Dankoltsweiler Sägmühle . Here in the valley the first public road K 3228 runs for a short time between its valley climbs from Dankoltsweiler on the right plateau in the north and to the further Ellwangen village Rindelbach behind the wide forest plateau on the left.

After this district road has left the valley again, the Fischbachsee , which was built up in the Untertal for flood protection at the Jagst and covers the narrow valley floor for about 1.2 km , begins . It is also a swimming lake in summer. Below the dam, the Fischbach flows through a small alder forest and then in small meanders in the wider Jagsttal to the Upper Jagstbahn , after which it rises from the right to 417.9  m above sea level. NHN flows into the upper Jagst .

After the 6.0 km of its course from Keuerstadt, the Fischbach flows about 43 meters in altitude below its confluence, so it has an average bed gradient of around 7 ‰. If you add the Eschenbach upper course, which is about 497  m above sea level. Above sea level , the gradient on this 8.9 km run is about 79 meters in altitude and about 9 ‰ in relative terms.

Catchment area

The Fischbach has a catchment area of 17.3 km², most of which lies in the Ellwang Mountains , a sub- natural area of the Swabian-Franconian Forest Mountains . On the southern part of the eastern watershed to the left of the Eschenbach – Fischbach river course, it is part of the Pfahlheim-Rattstädter Liasplatten in the foreland of the eastern Swabian Alb in the ascent to the Lower Jurassic . The two highest points are on the line of this eaves of the Lower Jura level on the Hornberg ( 580  m above sea level ) and on a northern spur of the small Lower Jura plateau around Eigenzell ( 558.3  m above sea level ).

The catchment area is adjacent to the eastern side of its northern tongue in the forest Won Red Latvians just northeast of Eschenbach origin to the peak of the Hornberg in the catchment area of about rotách and Wörnitz the Danube draining Gerbachs ; This morphologically rather inconspicuous section in front of the Jurassic level further to the south is part of the European main watershed between the North Sea on this side and the Black Sea on the other and thus hydrologically the most important. From the Hornberg summit, the watershed continues south on the aforementioned eaves line to the north of Eigenzell; here in the east borders the catchment area of the Ellenberger Rot , the large right upper reaches of the Röhlinger Sechta , which flows into the Jagst from the right above the Fischbach .

On the Eigenzeller spur the dividing line bends to the west and runs through the hamlet of Stocken in a now lower position to the mouth; on the other side of it, first the Kressbach , which flows into the Jagst at Rindelbach, compete , then noticeably smaller right brooks to the river.

From the mouth back to the northern tongue of the catchment area, the right watershed of the Fischbach runs almost entirely to the northeast. It first climbs to the small plateau around Dankoltsweiler , separates a few houses on this side from the rest of the hamlet and then roughly follows the forest road from there towards Matzenbach . To the northwest of this line, all the streams run to the Rechenberger Rot , the next, quite large, right-hand Jagst tributary that flows a little after the Fischbach. The highest elevation on this part of the catchment area border reaches only 523.7  m above sea level in the very north . NHN .

Around 90% of the area is covered by the closed forests dominated by coniferous wood, typical of the Virngrund , the historical landscape to which the entire catchment area belongs. Forestry has dominated here since time immemorial; Keuerstadt is the first detectable mill town in the entire Swabian-Franconian Forest. Larger open corridor areas are only available on the small plateau around Dankoltsweiler and on the ridge around Stocken. On the narrow valley floor there are mostly a few small clearings around the mill locations, the tributaries flow, apart from the lower reaches of the Kälberbach, all in the forest.

The municipalities of Ellenberg and Jagstzell and the Rindelbach district of the city of Ellwangen share the catchment area . The area in the northeast east of the upper reaches of Brandbach belongs to Ellenberg. To the west of the Brandbach and from Keuerstadt to the right of the Fischbach Valley, the area then belongs to Jagstzell, to the left opposite to Rindelbach; In the valley itself, the border between these two districts with the larger areas does not stick to the stream.

Large parts of the catchment area are water protection areas .

The Fischbach is 8.9 km long with its longer left upper course Eschenbach , with its own course from its confluence with the Brandbach near Keuerstadt it reaches 6.0 km. It has a catchment area of 17.3 km².

Localities

With small deviations on both sides in the valley area, the boundary of the district marking Rindelbach von Ellwangen (left) to the municipality Jagstzell (right) follows the course of the Fischbach. Settlements in the valley are just a few, some of them old, mill sites:

  • Keuerstadt , a Jagstzeller residential area to the right of the course immediately after the confluence of the upper courses with only one property, plus a chapel on the spur
  • Stockensägmühle , a residential area in Ellwang to the right of the run at its west turn opposite the inlet of the Stockener Bach with a property that is now a Protestant youth home
  • Treppelmühle , an Ellwang settlement area to the right of the run with the old mill property between the left canal and the stream, plus another property on the right at the foot of the slope
  • Dankoltsweiler Sägmühle , a Jagstzeller living space on the right in the floodplain with three properties next to the Kälberbach flowing here

Within the densely wooded and hardly populated catchment area there are only about a dozen houses in the Ellwangen-Rindelbacher hamlet of Stocken , which stands on the southern watershed, and two on the far eastern edge of the Jagstzeller Höhenweiler, Dankoltsweiler on the northwestern one. The total number of inhabitants should therefore be less than 100.

At the upper end of the tapered soon after Keuerstadt lock blade , the ruins of the at Old Castle in the forest on a western spur of Hornberg -Abfalls southwest.

geology

The largest elevations in the catchment area, the 580  m above sea level. NHN high Hornberg and the nameless, 558.3  m above sea level. The northern spur of the plateau around Ellwangen- Eigenzell , both on the south-eastern watershed, which reaches NHN , each has a Black Jurassic cover. In front of the eaves of the Lower Jurassic level, the Eschenbach and then the Fischbach as well as the edge of the river flow . In the rest of the catchment area, rocks from the Keuper can be found everywhere down to the silica sandstone ( Hassberge formation ) of the upper Mittelkeuper . The Fischbach flows into the flood sediment strip next to the Jagst.

On the western tip of the Hornberg, the slope continuously slides over the lock blade. The overlying sandstone layer has broken off over a lettuce layer in the upper Stubensandstein ( Löwenstein Formation ), the terrain continues to move due to penetrating water, in layers over the Trossingen Formation up to the Black Jura. On the tongue of the slide, the mixture creeps down to the valley as flowing earth .

leisure

The Fischbachsee is popular with bathers in summer. A little above it, at the Dankoltsweiler Sägmühle, two hiking trails cross, one of which, coming from the lakes around Häsle and Muckental, runs through the forest valley of the Altschlosstalbach into the Fischbachtal and then continues to the west over the ridge around Dankoltsweiler to Schweighausen and through the lower Orrot Valley leads to the Orrotsee . The other one runs across this from Ellwangen and the Kreßbachsee near Rindelbach in the south over the Dankoltsweiler Sägmühle through the side valley of the Kälberbach northwards to Rechenberg . A cycle path runs through the entire valley line from Eschenbach and Fischbach, mostly on forest paths, which offers a slightly steep transition from Wört in the Rotach valley in the east to the cycle path in the Jagst valley.
