The Muş-Sultan Alparslan Airport ( Turkish: Muş Sultan Alparslan Havalimanı ) is a Turkish airport, named after the Seljuk Sultan Alp Arslan , near the city of Mus . It is operated by the state DHMI . The airport was opened for business in 1992 and is used for both civil and military purposes. The city of Muş assigned to him is about 16-18 kilometers away. It can be reached by taxi, private car or minibus. Thanks to the nearby train station in Mus, it is also attractive nationwide for travelers without a private car.

Beginnings

In 1992 a terminal with a capacity of 300,000 passengers per year was built. Since the airport was already used by the military, there was no need to build a new runway. Only one instrument flight landing system (ILS) was installed. In addition to a central apron, mainly reserved for passenger traffic, there were numerous smaller taxiways, aircraft parking spaces and hangars, which are used exclusively by the military. There were 40 parking spaces in front of the old airport terminal.

The airport, which is now getting on in years, has been rebuilt or expanded. Construction work on the new 11,410 square meter terminal began on October 19, 2016. The apron was also expanded (to 51,250 square meters), which was supplemented by a taxiway parallel to the runway. In addition, the area has been made more beautiful and the number of parking spaces has been increased from 40 to 150. On December 30, 2018, the new terminal was inaugurated by the governor of Muş, İlker Gündüzöz. Shortly afterwards at 12:15 pm the first flight from the "new airport" took place. Shortly before the inauguration, it became public that the airport would be given a new name - Sultan Alparslan.
