Franco Joppi (born January 23, 1989 in Dornbirn ) is an Austrian football player in the position of midfielder . He currently plays for FC Dornbirn in 1913 .

Career

Career start in Dornbirn

Joppi began his active career as a football player in December 1997 in the youth division of his home club, FC Dornbirn . There he passed through various youth play classes until 2008 and was also involved in the academy of the state of Vorarlberg from 2005 to 2008. In his youth, Joppi was increasingly active defensively, which is also confirmed by the statistics from his youth. In all of his missions he rarely scored goals, as he was often used not only in defensive midfield, but also as a defender . In the 2006/07 season he was used in eleven league games in the U-19 youth league sponsored by Toto , another 24 league appearances followed in the following season, in which he scored an own goal, among other things. In October 2006 he made his debut for his home club Dornbirn in the regional league when he was in the starting line-up against WSG Wattens on matchday 12 of the 2006/07 season and was replaced by Ümit Kandilli in the 74th minute.

After good performance in the youth, Joppi was finally brought into the squad of the regional league team before the start of the 2008/09 season by the new coach Armand Benneker , after he was previously under observation by the team's Hungarian coach, József "Taki" Takács. For almost the entire season, Joppi came to his missions mainly as a substitute player, but towards the end of the season he was also used more and more over the full length of the game. He contributed his first goal on March 21, 2009, when he met in the 91st minute of the game to 4-0 in the game against FC Rot-Weiß Rankweil , after he had only recently come on the lawn for Deniz Mujić . Over the entire season, he made a total of 27 championship appearances, in which he scored six goals. He was the player of the evening in the 2-1 home win over SV Seekirchen on May 30, 2009 , when he scored both goals for his team within ten minutes. At the end of the season, Joppi and the team ranked first in the table of RL West and thus secured the 2008/09 championship title and rose with the team to the second highest Austrian football league, the First League . But before that, long negotiations awaited those responsible for the club before the license for the first division was finally received in early June 2009 and FC Dornbirn was allowed to start playing in Austria's second division as one of four Vorarlberg clubs.

Pro for a season

After he was exclusively in the first combat team in the previous season, Joppi was first used in the club's second men's team in the 2009/10 season . For the team, which had just been promoted from the five-class first class to the Vorarlbergliga , he played five championship games over the entire season, scoring one goal. He made his team debut on August 22, 2009 in a 3: 3 home draw against FC Rätia Bludenz , when he was on the pitch for the entire duration of the game and scored a 3-1 lead in the 53rd minute of the game. After making a brief appearance in an ÖFB Cup match against Bundesliga club SK Sturm Graz in the previous season and thus making his debut in this competition, Joppi made two more cup appearances for the 2009/10 cup season. With the team he was eliminated in the round of 16 against SV Ried . Franco Joppi made his debut in the First League and thus also his professional debut in the first round when he played through the entire match in the 0-2 away defeat against SKN St. Pölten . Joppi was used in every championship game up to the eleventh round, but was then eliminated due to injury. After three appearances between the 14th and 16th round, the 20- and 21-year-old midfielder stayed almost half a year without appearing before he was sporadically used again shortly before the end of the championship. Due to the poor team performance, the team dropped out of professional football at the end of the season.

During the championship, in addition to the sporting problems of the club, there were also financial problems, as the club lacked the necessary money. Since the FC Dornbirn was finally denied the professional license for the following season, the club rose again to the third division. The club's second team, in which Joppi was briefly used, also had to relegate to the fifth division, as according to the provisions of the Vorarlberg Football Association , the second team of a club must be converted into a 1b-Elf when the first team is relegated and is only allowed to play up to the fifth class, 1st national class, but not in the Vorarlbergliga. Although the amateurs would have just managed to stay in the league after catching up late, they too had to relegate.

Back to Dornbirn via detours

Joppi left Dornbirn after the 2010/11 season and moved to fourth-class FC Blau-Weiß Feldkirch . After 14 appearances for Feldkirch in the Vorarlberg league, he moved to the regional league team Schwarz-Weiß Bregenz in January 2012 . For the club from the state capital, he completed 46 regional league games in two years, in which he was able to score ten goals.

In January 2014 Joppi moved to Switzerland to the lower class FC Diepoldsau . After six months abroad, he returned to Dornbirn. Due to injury, he did not take part in Dornbirn's training operations in the second half of the 2016/17 season. With Dornbirn, he rose again to the 2nd division in 2019.

Family / private

Franco Joppi's older brother René (* 1987) is also active in football, but not as a field player like his brother, but as a goalkeeper . He also completed some missions for FC Dornbirn when it was still playing in the Regionalliga West. However, René Joppi, who is studying at the FH Vorarlberg in Dornbirn, was mainly used in the second team. The 23-year-old is currently involved with FC Schlins in the Vorarlbergliga.

Joppi visited the HAS Bregenz” together with other professional and amateur soccer players . Among his classmates, with whom he took his final exam in 2007 and left school, were Rifat Şen (Dornbirn), Gilles Ganahl , Andreas Simma (both Altach), Sercan Altundas (SC Bregenz), Çetin Batir (first SC Bregenz , later Viktoria Bregenz), Metin Batir (FC Lustenau 07) and Sebastian Beer (FC Hard).
