Franconian rake

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Franconian rake - symbol for the whole of Franconia and part of the large Bavarian state coat of arms and the large state coat of arms for Baden-Württemberg .

The Franconian rake is seen as the coat of arms of Franconia . It shows three silver tips in red . These tips create the stylized shape of a rake .

Design and use

The Franconian rake is a herald's image and a form of the coat of arms cut , because it divides the coat of arms in red and silver by a tip cut . Due to its simplicity and regional distribution, it has made it into a proper name as a coat of arms.

Franconian red is the color HKS  14.

The shape of the rake represents the holistic nature of heaven and earth and was therefore included in seals or coats of arms by church institutions . With three points pointing upwards (heaven) it symbolizes the Trinity of God and at the same time with four ends pointing downwards (earth) the four cardinal points of the earth. The visual similarity to the " flotsam rake " led to the current name, presumably because localities built at barriers built for the wood drift , whose livelihood was the transport of wood , use such figures as emblems.

history

The rake is documented for the first time in the early 14th century on the grave of the Prince-Bishop of the Diocese of Würzburg , Wolfram Wolfskeel von Grumbach , and in a seal of the place Gerolzhofen .

The Franconian rake was initially chosen by the Würzburg prince-bishops as a symbol of their (but rather nominal) Franconian ducal dignity . From 1835, the rake represented the Franconian areas, which had meanwhile been incorporated into the Kingdom of Bavaria , in its coat of arms . It can be found hundreds of times as part of the coats of arms of many regional authorities in Franconia, e.g. B. the Bavarian districts of Upper Franconia , Middle Franconia and Lower Franconia , most of the districts in Franconia, z. B. the Main-Tauber district in Baden-Wuerttemberg , the district of Hildburghausen in southern Thuringia or the district of Haßberge and many cities and communities, z. B. in the coat of arms of Volkach or Frankenhardt . The Franconian rake demonstrates that it belongs to today's cultural region of Franconia, which in terms of area technology still corresponds exactly to the short-lived former Duchy of Eastern Franconia , i.e. the original area of the dioceses of Würzburg, Eichstätt and Bamberg , which was later roughly recognizable from the small Franconian Empire .

The Franconian rake is part of the large state coat of arms of the Free State of Bavaria and the large state coat of arms of Baden-Württemberg . It is also the coat of arms of the city of Gerolzhofen .
