Friedrich Ludwig Emil Karl Freiherr von Stiern (born July 21, 1766 in Königsberg , † April 21, 1845 in Riesenburg ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

His grandfather was the Swedish King Friedrich and his mistress Caroline Stirn. His father was his illegitimate son Ulrich Friedrich von Stiern (* June 29, 1740; † September 18, 1796), his mother was his wife Luise Auguste Emilie, born von Dönhoff (* July 23, 1730; † April 29, 1768) from the Beynuhnen House , widow of Carl Georg August von Oppel . His father was elevated to the status of a Prussian baron on November 7, 1781 and was legation counselor to Landgrave Hesse-Kassel and owner of Lugowen .

Career

Stiern joined the "Alt-Platen" dragoon regiment of the Prussian army in 1780 and was promoted to second lieutenant by the end of October 1788 . He fought in the campaign in Poland in 1794/95 . On April 19, 1798 he was Premier Lieutenant and on October 29, 1805 staff assistant master . In the Fourth Coalition War , Stiern fought in the Battle of Prussian Eylau .

After the war he was appointed Rittmeister on October 20, 1809, and squadron chief on February 14, 1810 . On January 10, 1812, he was promoted to major and as such Stiern took part in the battles at Eckau, Ruhenthal, Pilkuiphnen and Ragnit during the Russian campaign. For this he received the order Pour le Mérite .

During the wars of liberation he fought in the battles near Katzbach , Paris and the transition near Wartenburg . In Leipzig he acquired the Iron Cross 2nd class and in Laon the Cross 1st class. Stiern was also in the skirmishes at Danigkow, Chausee and Chateau-Thierry . For Chateau-Thierry he received the Order of Saint Anne II Class.

On June 13, 1815, Stiern was promoted to lieutenant colonel and on July 8, 1817 a member of the Remontekommission in Prussia. On March 30, 1818 he was appointed commander of the 7th Dragoon Regiment (Rheinisches) and in this capacity Stiern became a colonel on September 19, 1818 . On March 22, 1824, he received a bonus of 500 thalers for his successful remonte. The following year, on June 18, 1825, he was transferred as commander to the 12th Cavalry Brigade in Neisse and on July 3, 1825, he was aggregated to his previous regiment. For this he received the service cross on August 16, 1825 . Stiern was promoted to major general on March 30, 1827, and was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle III on September 9, 1828 . Great before he retired on March 30, 1829 with a pension of 2,750 thalers. He died in Riesenburg on April 21, 1845.

Stiern married Justine Kunigunde Luise Poetsch on December 12, 1811 in Riesenburg (* November 22, 1793; † January 10, 1866). The marriage resulted in two children: the daughter Pauline (* 1812) became a canon in Königsberg in Prussia , the son Friedrich Otto Eduard (* January 10, 1816; † August 20, 1872) married Mathilde Maas (* September 18, 1826; † November 17, 1910) and had several children.

The last representative of the Barons von Stiern fell on May 19, 1915 as a lieutenant in the Grenadier Regiment "Kronprinz" (1st East Prussian) No. 1 in the Carpathian Mountains .
