Carl Georg August von Oppel
Carl Georg August von Oppel (born March 11, 1725 in Wetzlar ; † January 3, 1760 in Mömpelgard ), Lord of Gosda and Wellerswalde , was a court official in the service of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg and then of Württemberg .
origin
He came from the noble family of those von Oppel and was the second of four children who survived childhood and the eldest son of the then assessor at the Imperial Court of Justice Siegmund Ehrenfried von Oppel (1687–1757) and his wife Christiane Charlotte, daughter of the former Saxon-Eisenberg house marshal Karl August Edler von der Planitz . His father later gradually became Chancellor , Chamber President, Chief Tax Director and President of the Secret Council of Saxony-Gotha and Saxony-Altenburg .
career
Carl Georg August also entered the service of Duke Friedrich III. of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg and was already in 1753 when he a maid of honor of the Duchess Luise Dorothea married, governmental and Counselor . In 1755 he became Vice Chancellor in Altenburg and Gotha, and two years later Chancellor . In 1759 he moved to the service of Duke Karl Eugen von Württemberg , who appointed him on February 11, 1759, the Prince's birthday, to the Privy Council and Governor of the Fürstete Grafschaft Mömpelgard . Only eleven months later Carl Georg August von Oppel died in Mömpelgard.
Marriage and offspring
Oppel married Countess Louise Auguste Amalia von Dönhoff on April 25, 1753 (* July 23, 1730; † April 29, 1768). The marriage had two daughters:
- Dorothea Friederike Emilie (born November 26, 1755 in Gotha; † July 27, 1830 in Lauenburg), poet, essayist and travel writer, ⚭ 1771 Friedrich Ludwig von Berlepsch (1749–1818), councilor of the Electorate of Hanover, divorced in 1795, ⚭ 1801 August Heinrich Ludwig Harms, Official and Domain Councilor
- Auguste Franziska Caroline († 1810), ⚭ 1776 her cousin Carl Siegmund Emil von Uechtritz (1754–1849), Saxon-Weimar Chamber of Commerce, son of the Saxon-Gotha Secret Councilor Carl Emil von Uechtritz (1694–1775), supervisor of the princely domains , and his second wife Christiane Dorothea von Oppel.
After Oppel's early death, his brother-in-law Friedrich Hartmann von Witzleben (1722–1788), head stable master in the Duchy of Saxony-Weimar-Eisenach and husband of his younger sister Martha Eleonore (1726–1801), later the Saxon-Weimar court marshal , took over the guardianship of the two girls until their marriage in 1771 or 1776.
