from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Friedrich Mayr (born June 8, 1929 in St. Marien as Friedrich Weingartner; † October 18, 2019 in Enns ) was an Austrian engraver and artist (steel cutting, coins , medals and stamps ).

Live and act

He lived with his mother in his place of birth until her death in 1935 and then grew up with his father in Enns .

After completing his apprenticeship as a locksmith at the Deutsche Reichsbahn , he was a toolmaker and lathe operator in the main ÖBB workshop in Linz from 1946 to 1959 . He initially practiced the technique of steel cutting as an autodidact , repeatedly making honorary gifts for deserving railway workers, which made people aware of his talent.

From 1950-51 he learned (partly by ÖBB in omission of references on leave of absence ) as a guest student steel cutting and engraving with Hans Gerstmayr . In 1951 he was accepted as a freelance artist in the professional association of visual artists in Austria and he participated in various exhibitions.

In 1959 he began to teach as a contract teacher for practical lessons at the Federal Trade School in Linz. In 1960 he passed the master craftsman's examination as an engraver and chaser and in 1972 the teaching qualification for practical teaching. From 1967 he taught at the technical school for metalworking at the higher technical federal college in Steyr and in 1981 he became head of department there and in 1988 received the professional title of senior teacher.
