Karl Louis Friedrich von Gersdorff (born January 6, 1837 in Seehof , Rummelsburg district , † December 17, 1920 in Naumburg (Saale) ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

Friedrich was a son of the gentleman at Seehof Alwin von Gersdorff (1796–1877) and his wife Wilhelmine, née Freiin von Bock (* 1805).

Military career

After attending the secondary school in Meseritz , Gersdorff joined the 5th Infantry Regiment of the Prussian Army as a musketeer on March 16, 1855 and advanced to secondary lieutenant until mid-January 1859 . From April to September 1862 he was assigned to the military shooting school for training purposes. He then worked as an adjutant of the Fusilier Battalion and from July 1, 1864 to May 31, 1866 as a regimental adjutant. During the German War Gersdorff took part in the battles near Trautenau and Königgrätz in 1866 and rose to prime lieutenant at the end of October 1866 at the end of the war .

On July 7, 1868, Gersdorff was commanded as adjutant of the 23rd Infantry Brigade in Neisse and was promoted to captain on July 7, 1870 upon release from his command . In this capacity he took part in the battles at Gravelotte and Noisseville , the sieges of Metz and La Fère and the battles of Chateau Robert-le-Diable and Orival during the war against France in 1870/71 . Awarded the Iron Cross II. Class was on Jan. 5, 1871 to company commander appointed and after the peace agreement on April 25, 1878 Patent of 7 July 1869 in the seventh Brandenburg Infantry Regiment. 60 is added. On September 23, 1878, Gersdorff was promoted to the superfluous major and on May 17, 1881 was appointed regular staff officer. This was followed by assignments as commander of the 1st and 2nd battalions. Gersdorff was promoted to lieutenant colonel on March 22, 1887, with effect from April 1, as a regular staff officer in the newly formed Infantry Regiment No. 137 in Strasbourg . With the promotion to Colonel Gersdorff was commanded to Württemberg on June 17, 1889 and appointed commander of the infantry regiment "Kaiser Friedrich, King of Prussia" (7th Württembergisches) No. 125 . In this position he received the Cross of Honor of the Order of the Württemberg Crown and was released on March 24, 1890, commander of the Fusilier Regiment "von Gersdorff" (Hessian) No. 80 in Wiesbaden . In position à la suite of his regiment, he was commissioned on May 17, 1892 with the command of the 41st Infantry Brigade in Frankfurt am Main . On June 18, 1892 Gersdorff became major general and commander of this brigade . He received on the occasion of the religious festival in January 1894. Red Eagle II. After his departure , Gersdorff was granted permission to wear the uniform of the Fusilier Regiment "von Gersdorff" (Kurhessisches) No. 80 on July 8, 1913, and on August 8, 1913, the character of Lieutenant General. He died on December 17, 1920 in Naumburg (Saale).

Gersdorff married on September 19, 1885 in Drenken with Maldeuten Helene Marschall (1843-1917), widowed von Walther.
