Fritz Eggeling
Fritz Eggeling (born June 16, 1913 in Braunschweig ; † March 2, 1966 in Hanover ) was a German architect and urban planner .
Life
In 1931 Eggeling completed an apprenticeship as a bricklayer, and then continued his training in the building construction department at the city's crafts and arts and crafts school in Braunschweig until 1935 . Until the war he worked for Hans Bernhard Reichow at the structural engineering department in Stettin .
From 1939/40 to 1945 Eggeling was a construction officer in the Air Force . After the war he was employed by the Braunschweig City Planning Office and worked for Konstanty Gutschow and Hans Bernhard Reichow and as a freelancer.
From 1949 he worked in the building administration of the city of Hanover under Rudolf Hillebrecht with the reconstruction, most recently as city building officer. From 1957 Eggeling and Reichow had the technical and artistic management during the construction of the Sennestadt .
In 1958, together with Spengelin and Pempelfort, he won first prize in the ideas competition for the design of the capital Berlin , before becoming professor there in 1960 at the chair for urban planning and settlement at the TU Berlin .
From 1962, after winning the competition, Eggeling planned the new town of Wulfen near Dorsten on the northern edge of the Ruhr area. The planning for the New City is to be seen as Eggeling's main work. However, since the end of 2006 and until 2010, large parts have been torn down and "dismantled" because this district has become a social problem area in the city of Dorsten.
In 1966 Eggeling died of a heart attack in Hanover.
