Frohes Fest is a Christmas carol of the Fantastischen Vier , which was released as a single in the run-up to the festive days in 1991, 1992 and 1993 . It was only published as part of this publication; The single was indexed from November 30, 1993 to October 29, 2018 due to the risk of socio-ethical disorientation of children and adolescents by the Federal Testing Office for writings harmful to young people .

single

The pieces were produced by Andreas Rieke and Klaus Scharff . The single Frohes Fest appeared for the first time in November 1991 with the following tracklist, which remained unchanged for all other releases:

  • Happy Holidays (6:05 minutes)
  • One and one (1:55 minutes)
  • Frohes Fest (instrumental) (4:43 minutes)

Track 1 and 3 were written by the group itself. The second track is a cover version of the track One on One by the 2 Live Crew , which itself is a cover version of the Kinks song All Day and All of the Night .

Included songs

The title piece tells in explicit language about the dark side of Christmas, as experienced by social outsiders or people in socially shattered circumstances. Verses one and three as well as two and four are logically linked: The first verse tells from the perspective of a girl about the broken conditions that prevail in her family and the hatred of her mother's new friend, who that evening Santa Claus mimes. The second stanza describes the Christmas Eve of a bachelor who spends the night mostly watching television, drinking alcohol and using sexual services, considering the use of contraceptives as superfluous. The third stanza is told by the man who, in stanza one, disguised as Nicholas , brings the presents. In this stanza he describes the relationship with his brother as well as with his brother's wife. He now has this as a bed companion, and since he has the family all to himself that evening, he resolves to sleep with his eleven-year-old niece , the protagonist of the first verse. The fourth stanza is from the point of view of a prostitute who goes on the streets to finance her drug addiction - even on Christmas Eve. Here she describes, among other things, that she has AIDS after she noticed that someone wanted it "without" her - the protagonist of the second verse.

The text of the one and one , which is also included , is strongly based on the original of the 2 Live Crew , which also contains vulgar suggestions in simple rhyme form . The Fantastischen Vier played the piece at many concerts at the beginning of their career, even after their breakthrough in the encore block ; later the band was embarrassed by the song.

The third piece included is an instrumental version of the theme song.

indexing

The single was indexed on November 4, 1993, announced on November 30, 1993 ( BAnz . No. 224) at the request of the Heidelberg City Youth Office . The subject of the proposal was both Happy Holidays and one and one . While the Federal Examination Office paid tribute to the artistically demanding design and the satirical - cynical intention of the play in the former, however , one and one were considered to be pornographic and misogynistic . In the title track it was criticized that the satirical character is only accessible to adult listeners, but that minors could be impaired in their moral maturity by the apparently negative message . Therefore, both songs were assigned a status harmful to young people and an indexing was given accordingly . The band itself was not present at the indexing negotiations, but was represented by their record company.

Due to the indexing, the single experienced an unusually high rush of purchases, as many fans wanted to purchase this "special" record back then.

According to the Fantastischen Vier, a deletion from the index would have been possible without any problems. The band did not aim at this, however, because the CD's “collector character” should be retained.

25 years after indexing, the requirement for further indexing had to be checked again ex officio. On October 11, 2018, the responsible committee stated: “The title“ Frohes Fest ”is dominated by the satirical examination of the often exaggerated notion of an“ ideal world ”as it is stereotypically associated with Christmas. The portrayal of the characters who set the counterpoints to the "ideal world" through sexual abuse, drug consumption and careless sexual intercourse is characterized by irony. This irony also radiates on the title “One and One”. “The panel saw the requirements for re-indexing as not met. With the announcement in the Federal Gazette on October 29, 2018, the indexing was lifted.
