Group games

In Group C, North Korea met Olympic gold medalist USA for the fourth time in their first game . The US girls were the dominant team and created a variety of scoring opportunities, but either lacked precision in the end or the North Korean goalkeeper was there. North Korea had several good opportunities from the middle of the first half, especially on the right attack time, but also failed to score. In the second half the dominance of the USA became even stronger and in the 54th and 76th minutes the efforts were rewarded with two goals. North Korea only had opportunities again in the last five minutes, but were then lucky in stoppage time that a goal was not recognized because the goalkeeper's ball was spitzed out of the goalkeeper's hands. It was North Korea's third defeat in a World Cup preliminary round against the USA, only in 2007 they could achieve a 2-2.

In the second game, North Korea met Sweden. The North Korean team management initially confused the fact that instead of the initially reported Kim Myong-gum Song Jong-sun ran up. The Swedes immediately took the initiative and Lotta Schelin had the first good chance to score in the 2nd minute, but shot wide. North Korea was then able to narrow the spaces and so the Swedes hardly got any further opportunities. The North Koreans were not able to create good chances to score. In the second half, too, it took a long time for goal scenes to emerge again, although the Swedes were more decisive in the game. In the 64th minute, Lisa Dahlkvist used a fine combination for the 1-0 winning goal. Because despite efforts, the North Koreans only got one chance, which Sara Thunebro had to clarify on the line. The Swedes had the better chances in the end, but failed several times due to their weakness in the final. It was the fourth loss in the fourth game against Sweden, the last three of which were all in the preliminary rounds of the World Cup.

At the end of the group stage, North Korea met Colombia , runner-up in the 2010 South American Asian Cup . Like Sweden and the USA, North Korea had not yet played against Colombia. Since Colombia also lost to the USA, Colombia and North Korea were eliminated early. The game was therefore of no importance for the course of the tournament and was the only preliminary round game of this World Cup to end goalless, making both teams the only ones who did not score at this World Cup. Before the game, Song Jong-sun and Jong Pok-sim were provisionally banned after positive A-samples and all North Korean players were asked to take part in a doping test after the game.

The vice-Asian champion, previously acted as a secret favorite, was eliminated for the third time in the preliminary round and remained without a goal for the fourth time in a row in a World Cup game. As one of three teams, the North Korean players received neither a yellow card nor a red card in the preliminary round .
