Group games

In Group C, the Colombians met Sweden for the first time in their international history in their very first World Cup game . Despite their superiority, the Swedes were only able to take advantage of one of their many chances in the 57th minute and score the 1-0 winner. The nervous started Colombians did not have any significant chance of scoring and had to accept their first World Cup defeat.

In the second game, Colombia met Olympic champions USA for the first time . The US girls gave the newcomer to the World Cup only one chance to score shortly before the half-time whistle, but the ball was passed too late, so that Cat Castro was offside when the game was played and the goal was not recognized. At the time it was "only" 1-0 for the USA with a goal from Heather O'Reilly , who took the ball after a stick error and shot into the corner of the goal in the 13th minute. The Americans missed many other chances, however, only in the second half did Megan Rapinoe score in the 50th and Carli Lloyd with a long-range shot, in which the Colombian goalkeeper Sandra Sepúlveda did not look good : 0 victory for the USA. Otherwise, the goalkeeper - in addition to goal posts and crossbar - played a decisive role in ensuring that the defeat was not greater. With the defeat, Colombia has already been eliminated and the last game against North Korea , the runner-up in the 2010 Asian Women's Cup, was therefore of no importance for the course of the tournament. The game ended goalless as the only preliminary round game of this World Cup and both teams are the only ones who failed to score at this World Cup.

The Vice South American champion was eliminated when he first participated in the group bottom in the preliminary round, but was the second South American team to win a point. As one of three teams, the Colombian players received neither a yellow card nor a red card in the preliminary round .
