The advanced technical service in the Bundeswehr administration - specializing in defense technology - is a specialist preparatory service in Germany for the career of the advanced technical administration service . The aim of the preparatory service is to impart the general and defense- related knowledge and skills required for versatile use in the field of defense technology of the higher technical administrative service of the Bundeswehr ( Section 1 (1) GtDBWVAPrV).

General

The candidates are familiarized with defense technology and technical project management in the preparatory service. They learn to apply their university knowledge in accordance with military and economic requirements. In addition, they are made familiar with the relevant legal principles. Your understanding of technical, economic and administrative relationships is promoted. General professional skills, in particular for communication and teamwork, for critical examination of one's own actions and for independent and economic action, as well as social competence are to be promoted ( Section 1 (2) GtDBWVAPrV).

The focus of the training is geared towards one of the following six specialist areas ( Section 1 (3); Section 14 (1) GtDBWVAPrV):

  1. Automotive and equipment (KG; special military features for vehicles, systems and equipment, assemblies, operation and special questions),
  2. Aerospace (LR; military aircraft, on-board and ground equipment for military aircraft, licensing),
  3. Shipbuilding and marine engineering (SSm; design and construction of naval ships, ship technical systems, weapons and command systems, special areas in the development process and in the use of military material sea),
  4. Information technology and electronics (ITE; information acquisition and transmission and processing, system technology),
  5. Electrical engineering and electrical energy systems (EE; defense requirements, energy supply, regulation and control, electrical systems in weapon systems) or
  6. System armaments and effectors (SBE).

The preparatory service consists of a practical professional study period if the scientific and methodological knowledge required for the career tasks can be proven by a university degree completed with a bachelor’s degree or by an equivalent degree, or a bachelor’s degree with integrated professional practical study periods ( § 2 GtDBWVAPrV).

  5. Course "Profitability in Project Management",
  6. Course "Technical Basics of Individual Defense Technical Areas",
  7. Course “Legal Basics in Practice” (imparting the legal and administrative knowledge necessary for the later performance of tasks) and
  8. practical training (supplementing knowledge of defense technology and economic knowledge; deepening the knowledge acquired in the courses; interdisciplinary application in practice.)

In the "General Defense Technology" course, the candidates are taught cross-disciplinary defense technology content, security-political aspects and general topics specific to the Bundeswehr. In the “Technical Project Management” course, the candidates are familiarized with the general principles of technical project management in the armaments sector as well as the Bundeswehr-specific procedures and methods of project management. In the course “Efficiency in Project Management”, the candidates are given task-specific basic knowledge of business administration and economics, knowledge of the various methods and procedures of economic feasibility studies and basic knowledge of budget law ( § 13 Paragraph 1–3 GtDBWVAPrV).

At the start of career training, candidates are appointed revocable officers .
