Geneviève Lalonde (born September 5, 1991 in Montreal ) is a Canadian middle-distance and obstacle runner .

Athletic career

Geneviève Lalonde gained her first international experience at the 2007 Youth World Championships in Ostrava , where she finished tenth in the 1,500-meter run in 4: 30.90 minutes . At the Cross Country World Championships in Edinburgh in 2008 she was 36th in the U20 rankings in 21:35 min. She then reached fifth place in the 3000 meter run and sixth place over 1500 meters at the Commonwealth Youth Games in Pune . At the 2009 World Cross Country Championships in Amman , she could not finish her run. In 2010, she retired from the Junior World Championships in Moncton at home with 4: 19.20 minutes in advance and was sixth in the obstacle course in 9: 57.74 minutes. At the Summer Universiade in Shenzhen 2011 she finished eleventh in 10: 09.43 minutes and fourth at the U23 NACAC Championships 2012 in Irapuato in 10: 56.38 minutes. In 2013 she won the bronze medal at the Francophonie Games in Nice in 9: 53.35 minutes.

Two years later she won the bronze medal at the Pan American Games in Toronto in 9: 53.03 minutes behind the two Americans Ashley Higginson and Shalaya Kipp . So she qualified for the World Championships in Beijing , where she was eliminated with 9: 36.83 minutes in the lead . In the following year she took part in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro for the first time and finished there in 9: 41.88 min in the final in 16th place. In 2017 she reached the finals at the World Championships in London , where she finished 13th with 9: 29.99 minutes. In 2017, 2018 and 2019 Lalonde became Canadian Champion in the obstacle course. She graduated from the University of Guelph with a degree in geography . Her father Marc Lalonde was active as a squash player.
