Georg Schwarz (writer, 1902)

Georg Schwarz (born July 16, 1902 in Nürtingen , † February 20, 1991 in Munich ) was a German writer who became known as a poet and narrator, but also wrote some radio plays and worked as an editor of classic editions.

Schwarz was born the son of a dentist who later founded an industrial company. He attended secondary school in Pforzheim and studied philosophy for a few semesters in Heidelberg . After dropping out of his studies, he worked as a bookseller and antiquarian before going on several trips to the Mediterranean, studying the region's literary and musical traditions and developing an interest in archeology.

In 1928, Dr. Owlglass worked for the magazine Simplicissimus , which is why Schwarz moved to Munich . He wrote for the paper and composed poetry. His first book was published in 1929 under the title Dance of Death with Poetry for the series of pictures of the same name by Hans Holbein the Younger . Further volumes of poetry appeared in 1934 and 1935. In 1937 and 1938, Schwarz published the novels Jörg Ratgeb and Pfeffer von Stetten , and in 1940 a collection of short stories entitled Days and Hours from the Life of an Affable, God-Happy Human Friend, Johann Friedrich Flattich . Two stories followed: Strange Guests in 1942 and The Homecoming of Melchior Hoffmann in 1944. At the end of the Second World War, Black , who was considered unreliable because of his work in Simplicissimus, was drafted into a criminal and labor company .

In 1946, after the war, Schwarz gave a collection of essays on personalities from his native Swabia under the title Die Ewige Spur. Poet profiles of a German tribe (Swabians from Walafried Strabo to Eduard Mörike ) , followed by a large number of poetry and prose publications until 1972, some using classical illustrations. In 1952/53 Schwarz wrote four radio plays. He also published works by Ludwig Uhland, Eduard Mörike, Wilhelm Busch , Wilhelm Waiblinger and others.

Schwarz was married and has a son.
