Georg Franz Maximilian Steinmann , von Steinmann since 1888 (born October 7, 1830 in Baumgarten , † June 4, 1901 in Lübeck ) was a German administrative lawyer and chief president of the province of Schleswig-Holstein.

origin

His parents were the Prussian judiciary and manor owner Karl Friedrich Ludwig Steinmann and his wife Eleonore, née Gothein. Otto Steinmann was his brother.

Life

After graduating from high school in Breslau , Steinmann studied law and political science at the Silesian Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Breslau and the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg . In 1849 he was one of the founders of the short-lived Corps Saxonia Breslau . In the same year he became a corps bow bearer of the Silesia Breslau and - with Luiz Vieira da Silva - a member of the Saxo-Borussia Heidelberg . In 1850 he passed the auscultator test at the Court of Appeal in Halberstadt . Steinmann did military service from 1850 to 1852. In 1853 he passed the examination as a government trainee and in 1857 as a government assessor in Erfurt . He then worked for the government in Merseburg and in the Prussian Ministry of the Interior. In 1860 Steinmann became district administrator for the Thorn district . In the course of the war of 1866 he was civil commissioner in the government in Prague and at the end of the year was entrusted with the provisional administration of the general police headquarters in Hanover . The following year Steinmann returned to the Ministry of the Interior. There he was appointed lecturing council in 1870 . In 1873 he moved to Poznan as Vice President of the Government . Just one year later, Steinmann was appointed regional president in the Arnsberg region . In 1880 he became President of the Province of Schleswig-Holstein .

In 1887 he became a Privy Council, appointed and in the Year of Three Emperors in the hereditary Prussian nobility raised . In 1896 Steinmann was dismissed from the service of the Crown Prussia at his own request for reasons of age .

family

Steinmann married Klara Helene Freiin von Werthern (1837–1925) on June 1, 1857 , a daughter of the judge Georg Friedrich Rudolf von Werthern (1804–1841). The couple had several children:
