Giuseppe De Andrea (born April 20, 1930 in Rivarolo Canavese , Turin Province , Italy ; † June 29, 2016 ) was a Roman Catholic clergyman, archbishop and diplomat of the Holy See .

Life

Giuseppe De Andrea was ordained a priest on June 21, 1953 by the Bishop of Ivrea, Paolo Rostagno . He studied theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome and pedagogy at the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC From 1956 to 1958, he taught at the Nkubu Secondary School in Meru , Kenya , and from 1958 to 1961 in various offices of the Diocese of Greensburg active . From 1961 to 1964 he was professor of theology at Seton Hill College in Greensburg , Pennsylvania and from 1964 to 1967 director of St. Joseph Hall Preparatory School in Greensburg.

In 1983 Giuseppe De Andrea was appointed Attaché of the Apostolic Nuncio (Permanent Observer) to the United Nations in New York . On August 9, 1984, Pope John Paul II awarded him the honorary title of Chaplain of His Holiness ( Monsignor ) and on October 23, 1990 the title of Honorary Prelate of His Holiness . In 1994 he was appointed Undersecretary of the Pontifical Council for the Pastoral Care of Migrants and People on the Move in Rome.

In 1999 De Andrea became a canon at St. Peter's Basilica . Pope John Paul II. Summoned him on 13 December 1999 to business support (charge d'affaires) in the Apostolic nunciatures in Kuwait , Yemen and Bahrain as well as the Apostolic Delegation on the Arabian Peninsula . On June 28, 2001 he was appointed Titular Archbishop of Antium and Apostolic Nuncio by Pope John Paul II . He received his episcopal ordination from Cardinal Secretary of State Angelo Sodano on September 20, 2001; Co- consecrators were his brother, Curia Archbishop Giovanni De Andrea , and the Bishop of Greensburg, Anthony Gerard Bosco . His motto is “Expectantes beatam spem”. In 2003, he was also appointed nuncio in Qatar .

On August 27, 2005, his age-related resignation was accepted by Pope Benedict XVI. granted. He was followed by Archbishop Paul-Mounged El-Hachem as nuncio .

After the resignation of John Patrick Cardinal Foley, who resigned for health reasons, on February 21, 2011 as Grand Master of the Order of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem , Giuseppe De Andrea was together with the Governor General of the Order, Agostino Borromeo , until the appointment of the successor, Edwin Frederick O ' Brien , appointed as papal assessor. Cardinal Grand Master Edwin Frederick O'Brien appointed Antonio Franco on February 22, 2013 to succeed the sick Giuseppe De Andrea in the administration of the Order. Giuseppe De Andrea was appointed Honorary Assessor on February 27, 2013 for his great merits. Grand Master Cardinal Edwin O'Brien appointed him Grand Crusader of the Order.
