With the Greek Support Group for East Timor there was a non-governmental organization in Greece that campaigned for the independence of East Timor from Indonesia .
East Timor and Greece established diplomatic relations on April 4, 2003.

Citizens of East Timor are exempt from the visa requirement for the Schengen states . Greek citizens also enjoy visa-free travel in East Timor.
