The Danish-East Timorese relations describe the intergovernmental relationship between Denmark and East Timor .

history

With the IWGIA there was a non-governmental organization in Denmark that campaigned for the independence of East Timor from Indonesia . In 2003, diplomatic relations between Denmark and East Timor were established.

Denmark participated in the United Nations Interim Administration for East Timor (UNTAET), the United Nations Assistance Mission in East Timor (UNMISET), the United Nations Office in East Timor (UNOTIL) and the United Nations Integrated Mission in Timor-Leste (UNMIT) . The Danish diplomat Finn Reske-Nielsen was UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative from 1999 to 2002 and from 2006 Deputy UN Special Envoy for East Timor and Deputy Head of UNMIT, until he became UN Special Envoy for East Timor in 2012.

In 2012, Denmark sent staff to the elections in East Timor as part of the EU election observation mission.

Denmark is represented in Dili by its ambassador in Jakarta .

East Timor does not have a diplomatic mission in Denmark. The East Timorese ambassador in Brussels is responsible .

economy

While the East Timorese statistical office did not report any trade relations between East Timor and Denmark for 2016, it registered imports from Denmark worth 324,000 US dollars for 2018, which puts Denmark in 32nd place among the countries of origin. In addition, there is the import of a vehicle to East Timor worth 62,448 US dollars from Greenland .

Entry requirements

Citizens of East Timor are exempt from the visa requirement for the Schengen states . Danish citizens also enjoy visa-free travel in East Timor.
