Monaco and East Timor are on friendly terms.

history

In 1979 Princess Gracia Patricia of Monaco visited accommodations of East Timorese refugees in Vale do Jamor , on the outskirts of Lisbon . They had fled from the Indonesian occupation (1975–1999) of the former Portuguese colony. Gracia donated funds for medical care and training for the refugees. After East Timor's independence in 2002, Prince Albert II financed two maternity clinics, the Clínica Príncipe Rainier III in Same and the Maternidade Princesa Grace in Passabe, and a reforestation project for sandalwood trees in Lifau . In 2008 Albert II came to East Timor for a state visit. The East Timorese Minister for the Council of Ministers Ágio Pereira visited Monaco in 2014.

The Ambassador of East Timor in Monaco is based in Geneva and is also the Ambassador to Switzerland and Permanent Representative to the Geneva headquarters of the United Nations .

Monaco does not currently have an ambassador to East Timor.

economy

For 2018, the East Timor’s Statistical Office states exports from East Timor to Monaco worth 34,000 US dollars. This puts Monaco in 21st place among the destination countries for East Timorese exports, ahead of Hong Kong and Vietnam .

Entry requirements

Citizens of East Timor are exempt from the visa requirement for the European Union and therefore have free entry to Monaco via France.
