The Luxembourg-East Timorese relations describe the intergovernmental relationship between Luxembourg and East Timor .

history

With TIMOR ORIENTAL asbl there was a non-governmental organization in Luxembourg that campaigned for the independence of East Timor from Indonesia .

In 1999, Luxembourg transferred three million Luxembourg francs to the United Nations Trust Fund for the organization of the independence referendum in East Timor . During the East Timor crisis in September 1999 , US $ 15 million was allocated to humanitarian aid in East Timor and US $ 15 million to the activities of the International Armed Forces East Timor (INTERFET). In 2001, too, East Timor was one of the “project countries” for Luxembourg development aid. In 2001–2002, 620,000 euros were made available for the health sector. A project was agreed when Foreign Minister José Ramos-Horta visited Luxembourg in December 2000.

On September 27, 2007, East Timor and Luxembourg established diplomatic relations in New York .

East Timor does not have a diplomatic mission in Luxembourg. The East Timorese ambassador in Brussels is responsible .

For 2018, the East Timorese statistical office does not indicate any trade relations between East Timor and Luxembourg.

Entry requirements

Citizens of East Timor are exempt from the visa requirement for the Schengen states . Luxembourg nationals also enjoy visa-free travel in East Timor.
