Maria Schnee chapel and tower of the Church of Our Lady, 2011

history

In 1718 the population of Dechsendorf received the approval of the cathedral capitular Franz Georg Faust von Stromberg to build a chapel . The foundation stone was laid on August 6, 1719 and the Maria Schnee chapel was consecrated on October 1, 1730 . A school was built next to the chapel in 1726. Since Holy Mass was only celebrated on Wednesday morning, at the patronage festival (August 5th) and at the parish festival until the 1950s , many generations of Dechsendorfers took part in the Sunday service in the parish church in neighboring Hannberg.

After it became clear that the capacity of the Marienkapelle was no longer sufficient due to the growing number of residents in the post-war years , a church building association was founded in 1959. A year later, the architect W. Schilling drafted the plans for a modern new building that integrated the Marienkapelle as an outbuilding. The Catholic Church of Our Lady , which was built in place of the demolished old schoolhouse, was consecrated on September 8, 1963 by Archbishop Josef Schneider .

On October 5, 2002, the Evangelical Lutheran Christ Church was consecrated northeast of the village center.

The community Großdechsendorf was incorporated into the city of Erlangen on July 1, 1972. Before that she belonged to the district of Höchstadt an der Aisch and thus to the administrative district of Upper Franconia.

There is a primary and partial secondary school , three soccer fields, two kindergartens , an archery club and several playgrounds in the village .

Unlike the rest of the city of Erlangen, Dechsendorf does not have the phone code 09131, but 09135 from Heßdorf .
