description
In the species-rich deciduous forest area , the only larger population of moist oak-hornbeam forests in the Weser and Leinebergland in Lower Saxony grows on fresh to moist calcareous soils . There are transitions to woodruff or lime beech forests as well as small areas of alder and ash swamp forests. The image of a historically grown cultural landscape is conveyed by the adjacent grassland areas . The area is a habitat for rare plants and animals.
The nature reserve is crossed by the Leinebuschtunnel , which went into operation in 1991. The 1740 m long tunnel belongs to the high-speed line Hanover – Würzburg and is the northernmost tunnel on the section between Göttingen and Kassel .
history
